“Isn’t she?” Ford says, eyes locked on me. I roll mine and stroll round to the passenger door. Both Ford and Colten are there in an instant, both reaching to open the door for me. I huff and open it myself.

“I’ll be right behind,” Ford tells me, before closing the door and glaring at Colten.

“Molly’s going to be just fine with me,” Colten assures him, but Ford adopts that sulky expression and marches off to his vehicle. He’s revving the engine ready to go, before Colten’s even in his seat.

“He’s going to be tearing up my ass the entire way there, isn’t he?”

“Yep,” I say cheerfully, admiring the interior of the car, the seats covered in cream leather as soft as velvet, the smell nearly as enticing as the alpha’s scent.

I stroke my fingertips over the leather and then the dashboard, made from polished wood. “I think I’m in heaven,” I whisper.

Colten’s eyes stroll to the open slit in my dress. “Me too.”

“It’s an auction?”the omega says as we stroll through the door of the hotel and into the ballroom, her shadow prowling on our heels.

“Yes, it’s an auction.”

“You didn’t mention it was an auction,” she whispers as we wait at the entrance to speak with the head of the charity, Felicity Walters.

“You didn’t ask.”

“I just assumed it would be a dinner or something,” she mutters.

Felicity holds out her hands to me, kissing both my cheeks.

“Colten, darling, so lovely to have you here as usual.” She smiles at me with affection, then turns her attention to the omega by my side. “And this is?”

“Molly Stormgate,” I say.

To her credit, Felicity doesn’t show a flicker of curiosity on her face, she simply takes the omega’s hands in hers and kisses her next. “Ahh, yes, Molly. Looking beautiful! Absolutely stunning!”

“Thank you,” the omega replies.

“And don’t the two of you make a simply breathtaking pair.” The shadow snorts behind us. “I do apologize that I’ll be stealing him away from you this evening. I’m hoping with his handsome face, we’ll raise a considerable amount.” She winks at Molly and then moves on to the next group of people strolling into the ballroom.

“What did she mean by that?” Molly asks with suspicion as I lead her through the laid-out tables towards our seats near the front of the stage.

“I’m one of the lots on offer tonight,” I say simply. “Or at least a date with me is.”

“What?” Molly says, stopping in her tracks. “You’re one of the lots?”

“One of the main lots, I believe.” The shadow scoffs a second time. I ignore him. I know he’s interested in the omega too, but tough shit. This one’s mine.

“And you weren’t going to turn up?” she scowls at me, like I’m some naughty child. It’s frankly adorable. Not many omegas have the nerve to try anything like that. Molly Stormgate is one vibrant firecracker. One that will singe your fingertips for sure. “You were going to leave them in the lurch.”

“No, I was always going to turn up.”

I pull out a chair and motion for her to sit. Automatically she does, although her jaw hangs slack.

“You told me–”

“I did.”

“But you were lying.”
