“Mhm.” I pull out of her and remove the condom. I step out of the shower and toss it in the trash before stepping back in.

“You don’t look too good,” she says.

“Just what every guy wants to hear right after he makes his girl come apart.” I smirk, trying to make a joke. I know she’s right. I probably do look like shit. I feel it.

“I’m serious. What’s wrong?” Aurora presses the back of her hand to my forehead. “I think you need a doctor.”

“I’m fine. I just need to sleep,” I tell her. I don’t need a fucking doctor. I’m just tired. I’ll be fine after a good night’s sleep.

“Connor, this isn’t something I’m asking you. I’m telling you, you need a doctor, and I’m going to find one,” she says. “I don’t care if I have to tie you to the bed. You are going to let a doctor look at you.”

She’s serious. Her face is giving me that “don’t even try to fuck with me” vibe she used to give me in the hallways of school.Good times.

“I love it when you get feisty, princess. But I’m fine. You don’t need to worry about me.” I step out of the stall, wrap a towel around my waist, and hand one to Aurora.

“Yeah? Okay, well, that goes both ways then. You don’t need to worry about me either,” she says. “You know what? I think I might go for a swim. That ocean is calling my name.” She pushes through the door and starts walking towards the balcony.

“Don’t you dare jump in that water, Aurora. It’s the middle of the fucking night! You can’t even see what’s in there,” I warn her.

“You don’t need to worry about me, Connor. I’m fine,” she says, glancing over a shoulder as she continues towards the edge of the deck.

“Aurora, please. I really don’t have the energy to jump in after you. But we both know I’ll do it anyway,” I tell her.

Aurora turns around. “Why don’t you have energy?”

“Because I’m fucking tired.” I run a frustrated hand through my hair.

“Let’s go to bed,” she says, walking in my direction. “But I am getting a doctor and I don’t care what you have to say about it.”

I lie down, watching as Aurora puts on clothes and fusses around the room. “Be right back.”

“Where are you going?” I ask her, pushing off the bed.

“To reception. Don’t you dare move,” she says.

“Aurora, you’re not going out there without me.”

“I don’t need a babysitter, Connor,” she hisses.

“Last time I let you walk away, you were fucking taken. I was in the next room, Aurora, and they got you. You think I’m letting you walk around a strange place alone?” I stand and drag a pair of shorts up my legs.

“Connor, that was not your fault.” She shakes her head at me.

“Yeah, it was,” I say because it wasmyfather who took her.Myparents who held her captive and had her beaten daily. She was kept in the fucking dark. She can’t sleep without lights on now. It was my fault.

“Lie down. I’ll stay here and call reception,” she says, closing the door. I don’t climb back on the bed until she’s sitting at the small desk and picking up the phone.

“Thank you.” I sigh in relief and listen as Aurora orders whomever is on the other end of the line to send a doctor to our room. Not just any doctor, but theirbestdoctor.

When she hangs up, she comes and sits next to me. “They’re sending someone,” she says.

“Aurora, you can’t threaten people here. You can’t use violence. We’re normal civilians, remember?” I tell her.

“If anything happens to you, Connor, violence will become my new favorite pastime.”

“Because it wasn’t already?” I lift a brow at her.

“Not particularly.”
