Every man in this pub is looking at her. My trigger finger is itching to blow their eyeballs out of their damn heads. I can’t blame them, though. She is a fucking head-turner.

“You good?” Patty asks me.

“Fucking fantastic,” I grunt.

“You look like you’re about to kill someone… I’ve seen that look before.” He points to my face.

“Everyone is staring at her,” I grit out. Aurora is oblivious to my distress right now. She’s busy talking to Aisling.

“Then you shouldn’t have married a fucking knockout.” Patty shrugs. “What did you expect? You’ve seen her, right?”

Tilting my head to the side, I glare at my best friend. “Are you checking out my wife, Patty?”

“No, I’m just not blind. Besides, I know underneath that ten is a psychopath. I don’t have a death wish like you,” he says.

My fists clench. I’m not going to punch my best friend. “Call her that again, I’ll cut your tongue out.”

“You wouldn’t have anyone to talk to if you did that.” The asshole laughs. “I’m the only one stupid enough to put up with your cranky ass.”

I feel Aurora shift away from my side. My fingers dig into the flesh of her hip, stopping her movements, and my head turns her way. “Where are you going?”

“To the restroom with Aisling.” Aurora looks at me. “Are you okay?”

“I’ll come with you,” I tell her.

“Connor, this wholewatching me peefetish you have has to stop. It’s not happening. I will be fine. It’s just there.” She points towards the sign for the restrooms.

“Okay. Be quick,” I grunt.

“Sure thing, boss,” she says, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

I nod my head at one of the soldiers standing nearby, and he follows the girls to the bathroom.

“You know you’re pouting. It’s really pathetic,” Patty tells me.

“Shut the fuck up,” I hiss at him.

“Fine, but you need to get a grip. You’re going to give yourself a heart attack at eighteen.”

“Did you set up the meeting for tomorrow?” The tips of my fingers rub at my temples. I feel a killer headache coming on.

“Yep. Ten in the morning.” Patty nods.

My knee bounces up and down. I don’t like her being away from me here. “I’ll be right back.”

“Sure you will.” Patty smirks.

The closer I get to the bathroom, the more my stomach sinks with that feeling that something is wrong. I let her down once. Please don’t let me fail again. Fucking hell…

I quicken my pace. I can feel the heat of my soldiers right behind me. I don’t turn around, though. Instead, I push through the door of the ladies’ room and stop. My mouth drops open, my eyes on my wife, scanning every inch of her.

She’s covered in blood. A knife hangs loosely from her hand and her chest rises and falls rapidly.

Stepping over not one, but two bodies, I reach out and cup her face. “Are you okay?”

She drops the knife and nods. “Aisling…” Aurora huffs.

I look to the side, and my gaze falls on my cousin. Her face red and her lip split open.
