She nods her head and then signs to her friends at the table, that she went to the beach the other day and saw a lot of blue things.

I feel a tap on my shoulder making me turn around and see Katlyn.

I smile at her and stand up from Ellie’s table to go to the back of the room to see what Katlyn needs.

I have been working at this center for a few months now. I am Katlyn’s assistant and help her with whatever she needs. This center is mainly for people who have mutism. Everyone here uses sign language and this is the easiest job I could find for myself so that I don’t have to talk to people. I like working here. I feel comfortable working with the kids and that I don’t have to force myself to talk, not that I do, but they don’t expect me to talk here. Everyone here is either deaf or chooses not to talk.

"Today all they are doing is just working on some worksheets I handed out to them. After that I am going to put on a short movie for them to watch."

I nod my head."Sounds good. I can stay as long as you need me to."

"I will probably be sending you home early today just because there aren’t a lot of kids here today."

"Whatever works best for you."I smile and Katlyn rubs my shoulder.

"How are you doing today?"she asks.

"Same as always."

"Next week I plan on having a new assistant come in. His name is Callan and he is super sweet. He does talk but for some personal reasons he wants to join."

"Sounds good. I’m sure he will love it here."

"You will be teaching the basics of this place and whatnot. Is that alright?"Katlyn asks and I nod my head.

For the rest of the day, I help Katlyn with whatever she needs help with while the kids finish their worksheets. By the time they are done it’s dark outside and I get a message from my mom.

Hey love! Just want to see what time you will be done with work. Your father and I want to talk to you when you get home since we are heading out tomorrow morning.

I text her letting her know that I will be home around seven.

My mind is in scribbles as I try to figure out what she and my father possibly want to talk to me about.

Katlyn gathers the kids to the sitting area for the movie and while they are watching the movie Katlyn lets me know that I can leave.

I smile at her and wave goodbye after gathering my stuff. She signs"Get home safe."

When I walk outside, I see my black Range Rover under the same tree I parked it under. As I am walking closer to the car, I notice a guy leaning against the passenger door. My heart rate picks up as I walk closer.

The guy turns his head to look at me and he leans off the car and walks towards me.

I ignore him and walk past him to go to my car. When I unlock the car and open the door, I see a hand on the window forcing the door shut.

I feel my heart pound against my chest and the ringing in my ears warning me to be careful with my next move.

Calm down, Jane. Not every guy is bad.

I try to pull it open but he forces it shut. I turn around and furrow my eyebrows when I face him.

He is an attractive guy.

I wish I could describe him as more than attractive, but I don't know the word. He looks alluring but so dangerous.

His gaze feels like fire burning in my soul.

I see a flash of recognition in his eyes when he looks down at me.

Where have I seen him from? How does he recognize me?
