“Thank you. That would help a lot.”
“Sapphire. One more thing. Do you recognise this?” Hatton held out a plastic bag.
I stiffened as I saw the torn piece of material inside. “Where did you find that?” I snapped as anger raced through my veins.
“Sapphire?” Hatton pushed.
With a huge effort, I dragged my eyes away from it. “You know I do,” I hissed. “Where was it?”
“In one of the male victim’s hands,” Hatton explained.
“I hope you get some DNA off that,” I spat and spun on my heel. I stormed towards my bike, my club falling in beside me.
“Sapphire?” Sparrow asked.
“It was an MC patch—or part of it,” I said.
“Whose?” Blade demanded.
“The Bloody Femmes. Somehow, they’re involved in this shit. Because not one of those poor fuckers we pulled out was a Femme. Those cunts have been trafficking right under our noses and using our port. We’re going to destroy them for this,” I declared.
A cough came from behind, and I turned and saw Hayden. He held my gaze. My sisters glanced between us, waiting to see what happened.
“Don’t get caught and make sure you don’t leave evidence,” he said.
Jaws dropped open as startled stares were aimed at him.
“What did you say?” Candle demanded.
Hayden ground his jaw. “Sometimes justice isn’t enough. Not when you’re carrying the body of a three-year-old girl who died in that hellhole.I heard nothing,” Hayden seethed.
“Let’s go home,” I said, and Hayden nodded.
He wasn’t even supposed to be back at work yet, but I knew he wouldn’t leave this alone. Nor would Cassidy. Hayden swung up onto my bike and wrapped his arms around me. Life had just turned dark for both of us. But we’d make it, we had to.
Chapter Twenty.
Hayden
Ikept a sharp eye on Sapphire and her club, and not for reasons people might think. They’d witnessed a truly horrific incident—something no one ever should. Even cops prayed we’d never encounter a scene like we had two nights ago. And as I watched carefully, I noticed that certain sisters had special… skills?
Heart appeared to be able to read everyone’s emotions and was often witnessed dragging a sister off who needed to talk. I’d spotted Tinkerbell freezing several objects as she lost control of her feelings. That had been interesting. Candle kept sparking little lightning bolts around her, and I swear to God, Sailor had a tendency to appear in two places at once.
“What are you thinking, cop?” Belladonna demanded as she sat opposite me.
I’d stayed with Sapphire for the last two days, knowing how bad it would affect her, and it had. Between her and Sparrow, I’d been worried as they’d carried the bodies of the dead out of the container. Sapphire had melted down last night and sobbed forhours. I held her as she dealt with her pain and grief, and even cried myself.
“I have a name, Belladonna.”
“Yeah.Cop.”
“Whatever,Bella.”
Belladonna reared back. “Belladonna.”
“Hayden.”
She eyed me as if I’d shit on her bed, and I sighed. “Belladonna, I’m not here to harm anyone.”
