“By your reaction, I can,” I muttered as I held Sapphire’s eyes. There was wonder in them as she examined the bond. I could feel her gentle touch and how awestruck she was.
“Will you wear my cut one day?” Sapphire asked, and I heard the uncertainty in her voice.
“I’d be your what?”
“Men in an MC have an old lady; we’d have old men,” Sapphire explained.
“What about the,” I cough, “stable.”
“I haven’t slept with any of them for months. It got boring for me, and I’ve had a recent check-up, and I’m clean.”
“I am too. Saph, it’s not in me to do short term or casual. I’m looking for my soulmate—the woman I’ll marry and have kids with. What’s important is being faithful. I don’t believe in sharing my wife,” I said.
“You want children?” Sapphire looked pensive.
“Yeah. I know you didn’t have shit easy as a kid, but you’d be a wonderful mom. You’re kind and loving, and kids would be lucky to have you.”
“Do you really think that, or are you blowing smoke up my ass?” Sapphire asked, and I laughed.
“I believe that,” I said.
“Aw,” somebody sighed, and we turned to see Sparrow and several of the sisters behind us.
“I need someone like you,” Sparrow declared.
“Lucky bitch,” Lantern agreed.
“I just don’t want the badge,” Rose added, and I chuckled.
“Fuck off, you perverts,” Sapphire snapped and jumped up. She grabbed my hand, and we headed upstairs to her apartment. Catcalls and whistles came from the peanut gallery.
Sapphire
I couldn’t believe I was back at the hospital. Seriously, I had to buy shares in this place. My sisters surrounded me, all tense and alert. This shit needed to stop. I’d gotten a call two hours ago that Poker, Romeo, and Maverick had been attacked. Poker washurt the worst as she’d defended the men who, in return, tried to defend her.
I was anxiously waiting to speak to her and also waiting for an update on the three of them. The ER doors opened, and Maverick was wheeled out. Holy crap, he was a mess. Maverick boasted two black eyes, a split lip, and a bandage covered his cheek.
“Fuck!” Nun hissed as I carried on with my assessment. Another dressing covered his forehead. One of his hands was wrapped up, and I saw bruising around his throat. His other hand had bruised and split knuckles.
“They didn’t break my nose.” Maverick chuckled weakly.
“They broke everything else!” Nun cried as she raced over and knelt before him.
“What are Maverick’s injuries?” I demanded of the nurse who’d been pushing him.
“Maverick has two broken ribs and a fractured wrist.” Damn, I just noticed his cast. “He has multiple cuts and bruises and a concussion. We didn’t want to discharge Maverick, but he insisted. He has also pulled a muscle in his back and sprained his ankle.”
“Anything else?” I asked dryly.
“A headache,” the nurse added and released the wheelchair when Nun kept tugging on it. Nun wheeled Maverick over to the rest of the girls.
“The club will pay his bill,” I said, and the nurse nodded.
“Yes, we were made aware of his… affiliation with the Royal Harlots,” she replied, but I didn’t sense any heat from her.
“Thanks. Any news about Romeo and Poker?”
“Are you their next of kin?” the nurse inquired.
