I chuckled. “What is Daddy saying? Does he know?”
“No, but Bali threatened to tell him. Hell hath no fury like a natural disaster unrestricted. Total devastation will come to Nome when Uncle Mayor exceeds a cat five. He was close to that with you and Mythic. Although he was emotional, he was secluding himself so nobody got fucked up.”
“I don’t know, Shani. Daddy Mayor is really soft when it comes to us. You know that. He was more hurt than angry. Now,if Noni tells him she’s being mistreated, then yeah. He will fuck Nome up tryna get at Red Squared. However, if Noni convinces him that this is something she wants to do, then he’ll fall back. He’ll definitely be watching though.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right.”
I took a deep breath and tried to get back to work as she went to her desk when the bell rang. Someone was at the damn door. Aunt Chas went toward it, only for my mama to walk in with a hobbling Seven behind her. I rolled my eyes. That nigga had been on everybody’s last nerve. He was so damn spoiled. He’d been whining for a week straight about being cooped up in the house.
After he got through the doorway, I noticed Iesha behind him. She had to be the real deal if she could put up with Seven. I swore they were going to be Storm and Aspen reloaded. She was helping him get his crutches situated, and so far, the nigga was quiet as hell. The way he stared at her after he was situated, though, made me lift my eyebrows. Iesha’s face reddened and she turned her attention to us and smiled.
“Hey, everyone,” she said excitedly.
“Hey,” we all said in unison, clearly all in shock.
“Hey, y’all,” my mama said. “I wanted to bring Iesha to the office so y’all could meet your new graphic designer for Henderson Ranch and Farms. She’ll also be working with me on Nome News and other projects we may come up with.”
“Iesha, you’ve already met Maui, but that’s Ashanni and her mother, Chasity.”
“Nice to meet you, boo,” Shani said.
Iesha nodded with a huge smile on her face. She seemed so genuine. I glanced to the side of her and saw Seven just standing there quietly. I frowned slightly and interrupted their conversation.
“Iesha must got that ass in check, because you quiet as hell,” I said as Ashanni hollered with laughter.
“Yeah, that nigga over there mild as fuck!” she added.
Seven smirked slightly, then shot us the finger. “I ain’t in the mood for y’all bullshit. Go do what y’all getting paid to do, before I file a complaint with Uncle WJ. But before y’all get back to work, come here, Maui. I need to talk to you about something.”
I rolled my eyes and made my way to him as he sat in one of the chairs. I sat next to him and stared at him as he tried to get situated. “Naw, I don’t need no help,” he said sarcastically. “Triflin’ ass.”
“Nigga, what do you want? Like you said, I have work to do.”
“I know who the DNA belongs to.”
I frowned. “What?”
“They found five strands of DNA, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Three are dead, they arrested one, and the other is unknowm. I know who it is.”
I frowned. “How do you know that, Seven?”
“Do you wanna know who the fuck it is or not?”
“Who?”
“Mythic’s baby mama.”
My eyes widened. Her ass came to the house the other day to drop off Caleb and sat for an hour of it talking. She was extremely friendly. “Naw, that can’t be right.”
He shrugged his shoulders dismissively. “Do with that information as you will. She was seen with that nigga Eric when Treasure first went missing. I can promise you, it’s her ass. Niggas like to run their mouth.”
“Like you?”
“The difference is, I be knowing what the fuck I’m talking about and be running my mouth to get results. I’m a smart-ass nigga. Don’t forget that shit.”
