“No. There was never a question about it—I love you.” It felt so freeing to say it without hesitation, without reservation. And I sensed there’d been a shift between us, and not just because of the baby.

“I love you.” He pressed his lips to mine. “I love you, and I love Sophia, and—” he kissed my stomach over the material of my dress “—I love you, little one.”

I melted into a puddle of goo. He was going to have to pick me up off the floor because the love he had for me, Sophia, and our new baby was overwhelming.

I unzipped his pants, and his erection sprang out, bobbing against his stomach. His eyes were dark, the pupil nearly swallowing the iris as he ran his thumb over my lower lip. I sucked it into my mouth, swirling my tongue around the tip as I pulled it deeper inside.

“I want you,” he rasped, his eyes intent on my mouth.

“So take me,” I said, leaning back on the heels of my hands. “I’m yours.”

“Always?” He pushed my underwear aside, teasing my clit with the tip of his erection. I leaned my head back, already anticipating the connection, the release.

“Alexis.”

“Hmm?”God, that feels so good.

“Say it,” he growled.

I lifted my head to look in his eyes. “Always,” I said in a solemn tone.

He took his time, sinking into me inch by delicious inch. I’d never felt so full, so content, as I did in that moment. We might not be in our house, or lying in our bed, but it certainly felt like coming home.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

“No.” Sophia shook her head at the latest design Lauren had shown us. “Not blue. I’m not having blue in my baby sister’s room.”

“We don’t even know if it’s a boy or a girl,” Alexis sighed.

“And blue is a soft, peaceful color that can transition nicely whether the baby is a boy or a girl,” Lauren said. “Besides, this is really closer to mint in color.”

Sophia placed her hands on her hips. “Stop talking about having a boy. I’m getting a baby sister, and her name is Seraphina. No…Anastasia.”

I smirked, watching it all play out. I loved how excited Sophia was about her baby…whatever. She’d taken the news in stride, and she loved brainstorming baby names—well, so long as they were girl’s names. She refused to entertain the idea that the baby could be a he, not a she. But I was cool with it. I secretly hoped it was a girl, too. Though, honestly, I didn’t care what the baby was, so long as it was healthy.

“What do you think, Preston?” Alexis placed her hand on my thigh, and I stared down at her bare ring finger. It was taunting me.

“I think they’re all great designs. I want whatever makes you happy,” I said, and I meant it. It really didn’t matter to me, so long as Alexis was satisfied.

“Aww,” Lauren said. “That’s so sweet.” She leaned forward, her expression hardening. “But really, which one do you like best?”

“Umm…” Sweat prickled along my forehead, and I felt like I was taking a test I hadn’t prepared for. “Well, I like the rug in this one. It looks fluffy but still easy to clean. A wooden rocking chair has a classic feel to it, but I want to make sure whatever chair we get is comfortable. As for the crib, as long as the paint is nontoxic and it meets all the safety criteria and then some, I’ll be happy.”

Alexis smiled up at me, and I knew I’d passed with flying colors. She kissed my cheek. “Good answers.”

“You liked them?” I asked.

She lowered her voice, speaking into my ear. “Yes, and I’ll show you just how much I liked them later.”

“Mmm,” I hummed. “I like the sound of that.”

Ever since I’d moved in, she was insatiable. If I’d thought she was horny before, she was even more so now. Not that I was complaining. She wanted sex, and I was more than happy to oblige. Sex and, well, Starbucks breakfast sandwiches. She was obsessed with them, and she still couldn’t stomach the thought of her breakfast shakes.

Lauren cleared her throat, and I glanced at the time on my phone. It was getting late.

“Well, ladies—” I stood, knowing Lauren and Alexis could discuss the nursery plans for hours. “If you’ll excuse me, I have to get ready for my date with Sophia.”

I climbed the stairs two at a time, restless with nerves and excitement. Tonight was important, and I wanted to get it just right. It was time for phase one of my plan.
