“Big day.”
“Yeah?” He backed away, sliding his hands down my arms, letting me know he was still there. “Want to tell me about it?”
“I accepted an offer on my house.”
He blinked at me a few times. “Really?”
I nodded, trying to gauge his reaction. But the next words out of his mouth were the last ones I’d expected. “Move in with me.”
All the air whooshed out of me in a rush. “What?”
He took my hands in his. “Move in with me.”
I shook my head, struggling to keep up. Move in with him? We hadn’t even told his daughter about us. I hadn’t even signed the papers on my house. And he wanted to move in together? It was a big step. Was I ready for it? Wereweready for it?
“Why not?” he asked. “You already spend most nights at my place.”
“Yeah, but…” I paused. Why was I hesitating? I loved Harrison, and I wanted to be with him. “It’s… That’s quite the commitment. Are you sure?”
“Yes.” His gaze was pinned to mine, sincere but intense. “Yes,” he said again, as if to prove his earnestness. “I’m tired of you shuffling back and forth between your place and mine, and I’m sure you are too.”
“Well, geez.” I placed my palm on his chest. “Aren’t you romantic?” I teased.
“You want to hear the truth?” he asked, and I nodded. He pulled me to him, his movements—like his voice—gruff. “I can’t bear to be apart from you for even a night.”
I stilled, surprised by the intensity of his movements, his words. He was agile, yet strong. A true athlete.
“What about Olivia?” I asked, knowing how important her opinion was to him. I’d never want to do anything to jeopardize their relationship.
He waved a hand through the air. “We’ll tell her—after the wedding.”
“So, you want me to move in, but we’re going to continue to keep this a secret?” I screwed up my face. “Are you sure it wouldn’t just be better to tell her now?”
He shook his head. “No. Cam always makes everything about her. I’m not doing that to Olivia. I want her wedding to be perfect.”
He watched me, his intensity unnerving. All the while, I made a list of the pros and cons in my head. “Come on, Juliana. Do something unexpected with me.”
I rolled my eyes, but I couldn’t help grinning despite myself. “You always say that when you want me to do something that’s likely a terrible idea.”
“And it always turns out to be a great idea.” He was so cocky, so sexy. I couldn’t resist anymore. I didn’t know why I’d ever thought I could.
This man made me want to be spontaneous and carefree. Made me want to relinquish all my lists and just see what happened.
It had all started that night at the bar, with our one-night stand. He continually pushed me to give in, to let go. And I found that I was enjoying myself, perhaps more than ever. Besides, he was right—so far, everything really had turned out great.
“Okay.”
“Okay?” He dipped his head so our eyes were level, his gaze searching.
“Yes.” I nodded. “I’ll move in with you.”
He pulled me closer and held me tight, his chin resting on my head. “You have no idea how happy you’ve made me.”
So was I. I’d gone from staring at my Post-it notes and thinking they’d never happen—I’d never move forward. And now, I was finally doing it. I was letting go of my past and embracing my future.
Chapter Twenty
“Connor? What the—” I glanced between him and the back door Juliana had walked through a few minutes ago. “What are you doing here?”
