“I’d really like to keep it small.” She placed her hand over mine.

“You know what?” Juliana jumped out of her seat like her ass was on fire. “I, um—” She backed toward the door. “I just remembered something. Something I wanted to show you. I’ll, um—” She grabbed the doorknob, twisted, and stepped into the hall. “I’ll be right back.”

I stared at the door a moment, debating whether or not to go after her.

“So…?” Olivia asked. “What do you think?”

“About what?” I asked, dazed.

“Juliana, silly.”

How to answer that? Juliana was…beautiful, haunted, complicated. And even though everything told me I should let her walk away, I wasn’t sure I could.

Chapter Seven

Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god.

Alone in my office, I paced the floor as my mind raced. What were the odds? What were the odds that my one-night stand was now the groom and my new client?

It was probably about as likely as being in a freak accident—a tsunami. So, really…I didn’t know why I was so surprised. LA was huge, but the universe seemed to have it in for me. Was this a cosmic joke? Ha-freaking-ha.

But as I’d sat there, staring at my one-night stand and hisfiancée, I couldn’t breathe. I’d already felt bad enough for betraying Ryan, though my girlfriends convinced me that wasn’t the case. But Olivia was the living, breathing proof that my night with Harrison was wrong.

She’d smiled and talked about their wedding. And he alternated between watching her with a doting smile and eyeing me hungrily. I covered my face with my hands.

The door swung open, and I jolted upright.

Landon halted when he saw me. “Hey, boss.”

“Shut the door,” I hissed.

He did as I asked. “What’s going on?”

His concerned look wasn’t lost on me. Nor was the fact that I was totally freaking the fuck out. I never freaked out. Not when the bride got cold feet and nearly made a run for it. Nor when the mother of the groom decided to make an unexpected, and unwelcome, appearance. Torrential rains, no big deal. Regardless of what happened, I was normally unflappable. I had a backup plan for the backup plan. I could roll with the punches without breaking a sweat. But that was business; this was personal.

“We need—” I swallowed. “I need you to go in there and tell them I can’t plan the wedding.”

“What? Why not?” He pulled his brows together, hip cocked to the side.

“The… I… I just need you to, okay?” I turned away.

“Because you slept with Harrison.” It wasn’t so much a question as a statement.

My cheeks flamed with heat, and I wished I could hide beneath my desk.

Oh. My. God. Talk about mortifying.I’d slept with the groom, and my employee knew it. So unprofessional.

“Mm, girl.” He snapped. “I knew there was something between you two that night at the bar. That man is fine.”

My eyes widened. “He’s also taken.”

Landon suppressed a smile. “You sure about that?”

“Pretty sure.” I clenched and unclenched my fists.

I had the irrational urge to swipe everything off my desk. To dismantle my neat and orderly space. I had no right to be so angry. We hadn’t exchanged names or any information about each other, but I’d naïvely assumed he was single.

“He’s here to plan his wedding to a woman half his age,” I said, still trying to wrap my head around that fact.
