“Back off, Hansley,” Dax growls, his stance rigid as an iron rod.
Aiden stands behind everyone with a soft smile and a look of wonder. He looks frozen to the spot with eyes locked on me.
“I’m not doing this with her,” Dax says, squaring up with Jack.
Chase’s arms tense around me. “You better stop, Dax.”
“Guys, don’t.” My voice feels thin, drowned out by the growing tension.
But the growls are already rumbling through the air, a primal sound that shakes the ground beneath us.
“Dax, she’s our scent match, our mate,” Aiden says softly as he slowly steps toward me.
“I don’t want an omega,” Dax snaps. His rejection is a cold hand squeezing around my heart.
Aiden, Jack, and Chase growl. Aiden is too far away, but Chase and Jack’s scents mix in the air, smelling like burnt popcorn and sugar.
“Enough!” My shout cuts through the growling, louder than I intended. Their heads whip towards me, four pairs of alpha eyes wide with surprise.
Other people backstage turn to look, making things worse.
“Everything okay, Olive?” One of my favorite alpha security guys asks, stepping closer.
“All good, thank you,” I tell him.
Without another word, I twist free from Chase’s arms and dodge past Dax’s imposing figure. My boots pound against the floor, my heart hammering a wild rhythm as I escape into the relative safety of the fan meet and greet. The noise of adoring fans fills the void left by the alphas’ growls, but it’s just background static to the roaring confusion in my head.
I douse myself in scent cancelers.
“Oli! You were amazing tonight!” A fan’s voice breaks through, pulling me back to reality.
“Thanks,” I manage, forcing a smile as I sign a poster, my hands shaking slightly.
Aiden, Jack, Chase, and Dax join us, and I can feel their eyes on me, heavy with questions and unresolved emotions.
As I engage with each fan, their excitement contagious, I let the mask of the rockstar slide into place. But beneath the surface, my mind is still reeling.
Dax doesn’t want an omega, and they’re a pack.
So, where does that leave me?
I spend the meet and greet thinking through all my options.
I’m stuck with the four of them for the rest of the tour, so we need to get along. I feel attracted to them, but that doesn’t mean we have to pursue this scent match.
It’s incredibly rare to find a scent match, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find happiness with someone else.
Another group of alphas who actually want me could still be my destiny.
I know what I need to do.
All of us make our way back to the bus, and the four of them turn to face me with open mouths, ready to start fighting again.
“Don’t. Yes, Chase, Jack, and I are scent matches,” I say carefully.
Aiden steps forward with a hesitant expression. “We are, too. I could smell you when you were kissing Jack and Chase.”
I hear what he doesn’t say. He could smell my arousal.
