“Good morning. I can never get enough of that.” I too was mesmerized by the island’s beauty and the calming effect the ocean had.

I took a seat and let him be while I ate. It wouldn’t be me who’d bring up the subject today, he would have to. I made my offer, now it was up to him to decide.

As soon as I was done and the dishes were cleared away, Daddy walked across the room, took the lamp and handed it to me.

“Just remember, I love you with all my heart. Rub the lamp three times and I’ll appear in my true form.”

Now that I held the power within my hands, they shook. Fear of the unknown terrified me. To disappoint my daddy would break me. Was I truly ready?

Every possible scenario ran through my head as I stared at it. But it was now or never. I took a deep breath, mymind set on granting my Daddy, Genie, in this circumstance, his freedom, and I rubbed the lamp three times.

Poof!

My emerald-eyed Daddy appeared before me, a whisp of green swishing overhead. “What is your first wish, Master?”

This expressionless form of the man I loved was inside, screaming to get out. This version was unnerving, to be honest, and I wanted my Daddy back.

My thoughts scattered, though I honed in on the one I must focus on. “Genie, my wish is two in one.”

“Only one wish at a time, Master.” I didn’t care for him calling me that at all.

“Understood. Let me voice it and you can take it as one or two, however it need be.” As ready as I would be, I said the words aloud as they played in my head. “Genie, I wish for your freedom from this lamp and that we may be together forever. However long that may be.”

Right before my eyes, Genie and the lamp disappeared.

What the hell had I just done?

Chapter Ten

Genie

“Genie.” The entity sitting in the center throne of the seven seated fates addressed me as I appeared before them in their chamber high above the clouds. “You’ve found the one to break the spell.”

“Raj,” I whispered. My dear boy did what countless others promised but never carried out.

“Yes. Trust in the man you love. There’s more than meets the eye to him. He’s stronger than you think and his love for you has no boundaries.”

“He’s the one.”

“He is. Now the question remains, do you wish for your freedom as well? Your magic as you once knew it would no longer be, but given you were created not as a human, you never truly will be free of it. Some magical powers will remain, but you will no longer be held captive by it nor by the lamp.”

“I do, as long as Raj will be by my side.” At my words, the love of my life appeared. “Raj.”

“Genie,” he gasped, and dove for me. I wrapped my arms around him and held him tight, refusing to let go.

“Ahem.” One of the fates cleared their throats. “May we continue?”

“Yes, please.” I was ready for this to be over, to be free of the lamp and the eternal imprisonment associated with it, but I wasn't about to let my boy go for anything.

“Genie, you have done well serving your masters, though that has now come to an end.” With a flick of her wrist, one of the gold cuffs that bound me to a life of servitude moved from my wrist to Raj’s.

“No!” I screamed. “I’ll give my life before I’ll allow him a day of the hell I’ve lived.”

“Calm yourself now!” The bark of the voice coming from one of the male entities as he rose came in a thunderous roar. “You will listen.”

I remembered this voice. He was the one who condemned me to a life of servitude. Why he disliked me, I had no clue. At the time I was but a babe in every since of the word, yet his anger over the situation was taken out on me.

“These cuffs no longer serve as a sign of your enslavement, as that will be no more. They now symbolize your tie to one another. For as long as you walk the earth, Raj shall do the same by your side. “
