The planned operation was a far cry from how we’d handled a situation of this magnitude in the past.

More sophisticated.

Or maybe we’d just gotten older and impatient.

A grin remained on my face as I headed for the others, who were already gathered at the spot of origination. Between the five of us and five more soldiers who’d carry out phase one, we would have enough to counteract the security measure includingthe five guards who regularly walked the grounds with two remaining inside.

The four explosives experts would remain outside, preparing for phase two.

“You know how to throw a party,” Kazimir said as soon as I approached. My older brother was no longer considered a playboy since falling in love with Marissa, an incredibly talented pianist. His mood, as I’d seen with Mikhail and Vissarian, my other cousin had markedly improved since finally finding and enjoying their families.

While I admired them, true love wasn’t an emotion I wanted to explore.

“Give him a break,” Sasha teased. “He’s had a rough night.”

Mikhail chuckled. “So I heard. How was staying at Dreamscape for what, the first time?”

“Don’t go there,” I admonished. “I’ve stayed there several times.” Just all alone.

“We need to get this over with before morning light. Which,” Vissarian hesitated and glanced at his watch, “is in less than an hour.”

“We’ll be in and out by then. Trust me,” I told them while glancing at the building.

“Said the spider to the fly. Vissarian is right. Let’s not waste time. Even if the two assassins who got away suspect they killed you, by the first news cycle, both Papadakis boys will have confirmation you’re alive and well. That means they’ll tighten security.”

Mikhail had a point.

I lifted my weapon, still grinning. “Then let’s not waste time talking. I also have other things to do.”

“Watch out, world. Our boy might have found himself a gal.”

Vissarian thought he was so funny. The man was annoying as hell.

We headed to the building, remaining in the shadows. There were few streetlights on the road, none on the building. While there were cameras positioned on every corner, there were no motion lights to provide advance warning.

We’d use that to our advantage.

Since we’d worked together as a team before, there was no real need to decide on how the attack would be handled. We simply moved in.

Just before we reached the building, a shadow appeared on my right. I swung around, firing off two shots before the guard could get off one.

He dropped to the ground, his death barely creating a sound. Mikhail, Sasha, and I along with a few guards headed to the back.

The silenced popping noise seconds later meant a second exterior guard was down. We moved toward the door. Mikhail had a small donut charge like the type we’d used before. The device was safe and effective while creating little sound. His childhood affinity for breaking into buildings and safes had come in handy over the years.

With the charge in place, we merely took a step back. Within seconds, the door handle was displaced, allowing easy access to the building. We filtered in as if we had military backgrounds.

The dim lighting was all we needed to make our way through the building. When we heard voices, we realized at least two guards were shooting the shit together.

I chuckled to myself as we advanced like savage predators. Halle would certainly get a kick out of witnessing the operation. Either that or she’d leave the city in search of a safer location away from me.

What was already nagging at the back of my mind was that if she ran, I’d hunt her down. It was that simple. She wasn’t going to get away from me that easily.

My dick was doing the thinking for me instead of keeping my mind on the operation, because I missed a trip wire altogether. If I’d been paying close attention, that would never have occurred.

Within seconds, lights were flashing everywhere, a shrill beeping sound echoing throughout the building.

“Well, that’s a way to keep our attack in the dark,” Mikhail growled as he rushed by me.
