“Bu-but what about Stephen? I thought you were happy with him. You said he was your soul mate.” Thea glances down at her lap before meeting my gaze again with a blush coloring her cheeks.

“Stephen feels the same calling,” she tells me.

“To the same person?” I try to clarify.

She nods her head. “It seems you aren’t the only one with more than one mate. I’m glad you were first. This way, I can get all the advice I need from a trusted source. Now tell me, how do you handle so many dicks at once?” I gasp and shove her away from me before we both break down in giggles.

I reach for the tumbler of coffee sitting next to me and take a sip before remembering how much I hate the taste of it. My face scrunches up as my throat refuses to swallow. Thea takes one glance at me and falls into a new fit of laughter. In a rush, I jump from my seat and lean over the banister to spit the vile offender to the snow below. Hopefully, there isn’t someone patrolling the grounds in the same spot it lands.

A cold burst of wind hits me before I edge my way back into the bubble of warmth Thea created for us. I resume my seat on the patio lounger as my tongue darts out a few times, rubbing against the roof of my mouth, trying to remove the taste. “You would think with how popular pumpkin spice is, it would actually taste good. I don’t know how anyone drinks this stuff!” she says to me, in between receding giggles.

“I know, right! Maybe it’s a developed human taste or something,” I reply with a raised eyebrow. Once a week, Thea and I get together for some girl time and to try something new from our list of things we’ve missed out on.

Thea lets out a gasp and says, “Oh! I almost forgot!” She reaches into her bag and pulls out a frosted container. She hands it to me and the magic keeping it cold instantly seeps into my hand. I quickly set it down on the table next to me.

“What is it?” I ask her as I try to peer through the frosted glass to see what’s inside.

“It’s to die for! Chocolate cheesecake. Trust me, my friend, you haven’t tasted anything more decadent.” Her grin tells me just how much she enjoys the desert. “I got it from the kitchen. So you know where to get more when you run out. You might want to hide it from your men if you don’t want to share too.” She tilts her head with a knowing look after all the stories I’ve told her of them not respecting a name on my desert.Lucky I love them.

She stands and I voice my objections, “Where are you going? I haven’t had my fill of best friend time.”

With a dreamy smile, she says, “Stephen wants to go through everything we’re taking with us, and said he has a surprise for me tonight. Sorry, girlfriend. I’ll make sure to say goodbye before we leave.”

I stand with a pout, but quickly pull her in for a tight hug. “I’m going to miss you. Make sure you stay safe and keep me updated on how things are going,” I command into her hair.

She lets out a light laugh. “This isn’t goodbye yet. I just said I would find you before we leave.”

“I know. I just figure the more times you hear it, the better my chances are of you listening to it.” Her arms tighten around me before she pulls back to kiss my cheek.

“How did I ever end up with such a good friend? I’ll see you soon, girlie.” She twirls around and scoops up her bag before heading inside and through our home. I take a deep breath, the fresh air crisp on my senses. The area surrounding the castle is a picture of serene peace. Snow covers everything, the thick wet kind that sticks to everything. It highlights every tree branch before me. The sky is a dark gray, indicating more snow in the near future.

With a sigh, I turn and pick up the container with the cheesecake Thea left for me. I move to walk inside just in time as her magic dissipates and the warm bubble is instantly invaded by the freezing temperature. With a sharp inhale, I rush inside, not having dressed to be in such cold weather.

Soft murmurs and the metal weights clanking can be heard from Marcus and William’s workout room. I glance around to see if any of my other mates are about. Finding the coast is clear, I head straight for the kitchen and pull a plate from the cabinet before opening the container and serving myself a slice of what smells like heaven.

I quickly hide the container with the remaining cheesecake in the back of the fridge and grab my plate, sitting at the island on top of a stool. The first bite is an explosion of flavor. The chocolate is creamy and the texture is oh so smooth. I sigh and savor the flavor before taking another bite. Somehow this one contains an even stronger punch of flavor and I let out a moan as I slowly pull the fork from my mouth. After finishing my third bite, I can’t help but say, “Fuck. This is so amazing. It’s like a mouth orgasm.”

My eyes open and I see Marcus frozen in his tracks. “Where did you get that?” he asks, pointing at my desert.

“Thea gave it to me. She got it from one of the cooks in the kitchen. Why?” He gives me a look that I can’t quite decipher, before striding quickly over to me and swiping my plate from me. “Hey! I’m not sharing!” I lunge after him, trying to grab my plate back, but he just swivels out of my reach and holds the plate over my head. Scrambling out of my seat, I try to catch him, but he’s too quick. With a thunk, my decadent treat lands in the trash.

“What the fuck, Marcus?! Why did you do that?” He ignores my question as he pulls ingredients out of our pantry. What crawled up his ass today?

I give him the middle finger behind his back and reach inside the fridge to serve myself another slice. As I pop the lid to the container, Marcus turns around and swipes his hand out, hitting the glass container from my hands and it slides right off the edge of the counter. The glass shatters on the ground and cheesecake splatters everywhere. “Marcus!” I yell.

“No!” he says, voice firm and unforgiving.

“No, what?” I ask at a total and complete loss of why he’s acting this way.

“You said it came from the kitchen, right?” he verifies.

“Yeah. And?” My brows furrow and I cross my arms. He has ten seconds to get to the point before I lose my patience with him.

“You said it was giving your mouth an orgasm,” he states as if that’s enough explanation and I should understand exactly where he’s coming from. I wave my hand in a motion telling him to keep going. He rolls his eyes before saying, “So your mates are the only ones allowed to give you orgasms, Babe. You should know this already.”

“What should she know already?” Klaus asks as he walks into the room. He reaches into the fridge for a bottle of water and steps back before letting out a yelp. He jumps and when he lands, his foot slides through some of the cheesecake, spreading a line of blood having initially stepped on a piece of glass.

I let out a groan at the added mess and give Marcus a scathing glance. “Marcus is taking an off-hand comment and making a big deal out of nothing.” My lower lip sticks out and I walk into Klaus’ embrace, giving him my best ‘side with me’ face. “Look what he did to my cheesecake. He swiped it right out of my hands.”
