She turns her head, so her face is in the crook of my neck.“I’m not seeing a problem with that threat.”
“As much as I would love to forget the rest of the world and pretend we’re the only ones in it.We do have to get back for a meeting with Ainsley and a few others. We also need to talk about what to do with Auntie Lynn’s place.”I sigh, knowing that none of this is stuff she wants to do or think about.
“I know, but a woman can have hopes and dreams,” she huffs, still not moving from her place on my lap, against my chest and with her face resting against my neck.
I pat her on the ass.“Come on, sweet Anastasia, let's get moving.”
She slowly sits up with a playful look on her face before she strikes, sinking her teeth into the side of my neck, just half above and half under my shirt collar.I hiss, grabbing her by the hair on her head, not knowing if I should pull her away or hold her there as the pain is mixing with pleasure. She lets go, kissing the spot, then stands before I can fully grasp what just happened.
I look up at her as she stands over me with a satisfied smirk on her face.“I don’t share.”
Her words warm my chest, but I can’t stop my mouth from moving.“You really think a bite mark is going to stop someone if they really want to?”
Anastasia stops and smiles sweetly.“It may not stop them. What it will do is remind you both I’m slightly crazy.”
I just blink because what the hell? This woman in front of me isn’t the sweet innocent girl I once knew, and if I’m honest, she scares me just a touch. It’s then that it hits me.All the times at the club she’s let me lead, been soft and vulnerable or seemed timid, it was because she knew she was safe. The woman I’m looking at now is the slightly unhinged woman that would sacrifice herself for her family.I stand coming up behind her as she is buttoning her pants, wrapping my arms around her, pulling her back to lean on my chest. She sags into me, locking her fingers with mine.
“What am I going to do without her?”Anastasia whispers.
“Be the woman she would want you to be,” I tell her honestly.“Do you know if she had a will or anything that said what to do with the property if something were to happen to her?”
“I don’t have a clue.I wish I did.Hell, I don’t even know if we have more family out there or if she was all there was.”She sounds so lost.
“We have plenty of people who can help us figure out.I promise you when this is all over and we’ve taken care of this stuff with your sister, we will do something special for her.”I kiss the top of her head as I check my watch.
“I know, and I also know it wasn’t an accident.”Her words are laced with fire.
“We need to head back if we’re going to make the meeting with everyone. After that, if you and Rusher are up for it, I would like us to go out for a bit.”I tell her.
She turns in my arms, smiling up at me.“That sounds like the best idea.”
We finish righting our clothes and climb back onto the bike, making our way back to the clubhouse. On the way back, she is much more relaxed, and I think truly enjoys the ride.We take half the time to get back to the clubhouse since I go straight there to make the scheduled meeting on time.We pull into the parking lot of the club at the same time as Blender and Rhino.I give a nod as we dismount and head inside.I take Anastasia's hand to guide her through the clubhouse when I notice she’s limping more than she has been.
I turn and swing her up into my arms bridal style, carrying her into the clubhouse.Ivy and a few other club bunnies are in the great room when they see me carrying her in, all giving various looks from curiosity to disdain.I ignore them all, going straight for the conference room, not at all surprised to find that we’re the last ones in there.I place Anastasia down on her feet so she can decide where she wants to sit.Not at all surprised when she sits next to Pope, who gives her a side hug.Across from her is Ainsley, with Mercy on her right.Terro is at one end of the table with Hermes at the other.Blitz and Anvil are also there.
Ainsley, never being one to hold her tongue, speaks first.“Why did you want to have a meeting with both of us?Outside of my role with Jenny and the attack on the bar, I don’t know anything.”
“That’s just it, we’ve gotten some information recently that might connect some dots and help complete the picture.”Terro tells her.
She eyes him for a long moment before nodding.“But what does that have to do with Anastasia?Other than her being kidnapped, and you thinking her sister is involved, why do you need us both?”
The large TV behind Terro's head comes on, and a picture of Shea about seven or so years comes up.Beside it is a picture of Jenny, Ainsley, and Shea and then a picture of Jenny and Shea the night she disappeared.Ainsley gasps, covering her mouth, her eyes getting glassy.Anastasia looks between the TV and Ainsley, betrayal written on her face.
“Before either of you jump to conclusions, we have some questions,” I say slowly.
Both women nod but continue to watch each other.
“Ainsley, how do you know the woman in the picture with you and Jenny?”I ask her.
“That’s Sheena. We met her on campus. She was super sweet, bubbly, and loved to have fun.We both took a quick liking to her.Sheena would always show up and hang out with us, but I can’t say I ever heard or saw her do anything with classes.”A tear falls as she talks about her time at college.
Anastasia’s face becomes more and more confused the longer Ainsley talks.I look down at her.“How do you know her?”
She points at the screen.“That’s my fucking sister, Shea.”
Ainsley gasps while Mercy’s head snaps in Anastasia's direction, a look of pure murder on his face.I motion to Hermes to roll the footage showing Shea walking into a club with Jenny and then, not fifteen minutes later, walking out and climbing onto a motorcycle. The same fucking club Jenny went missing from. The patch on the back of the man's cut is none other than the Lucifer’s Knights.I watch as all the pieces fall into place in Ainsley's head.
“The bikers who blew up the bar that night were the Lucifer’s Knights, and they really were only there to fuck with the cartel.”Ainsley's words are hollow.
