Me:I am too. Let me handle it.
“Let’s dance.”Oh, no.Thomas downed the rest of his whiskey and pulled me toward the center of the apartment, where a few people danced. He grabbed my hands and placed them around his neck. “This reminds me of Paris,” he mumbled. I mean, it did if you thought about the whiskey and the dancing, but he wasn’t hammered then so no. It didn’t remind me of Paris. At all.
It even felt less like Paris when he fondled me in front of everyone as he danced with his body attached to mine. “I can’t wait to take that dress off of you.”
Sure, he was hot as freaking hell, and he was my boyfriend, but I didn’t feel comfortable with his behavior. He wasn’t himself.
Nicholas kept staring at us in the distance, and I tried looking for Caleb, but I couldn’t place him. He was stealthy, as I had asked him to be, but I knew he was watching.
Thomas wasso drunkthat he didn’t even care or notice when I pulled away from him uncomfortably. Instead, he excused himself to go to the restroom and half-stumbled on his way there. I blinked twice, and Nicholas appeared in front of me.Fuck.
“It’s always the shy ones,” he said, lifting his brow.
“Excuse me?”
“The shy ones are always the naughty ones,” he whispered in my ear.
Nicholas thought that I was a floozy because of Thomas’s drunken behavior while we danced. If he was so intently looking our way, he must’ve seen how I kept trying to pull away. But why should I care about Nicholas’s opinion anyway? Screw him. He was just trying to get under my skin.
I didn’t want to spend any more time talking to Nicholas, of all people. But he grabbed my arm when he saw my intention to leave. “I’m just kidding, ginger. How’s your evening going?” His eyes were bloodshot. I didn’t answer. I didn’t want him to feel welcome to a chit chat.
“You need a refill. Let me take care of it for you.” Nicholas was talking to himself because, for all I knew, we weren’t having a conversation.
“Come on, loosen up a bit,” he said, placing his hand on my shoulder and gripping it. “You’ve had like one. But you don’t seem like you need much to—”
“No, thanks.” I cut him off, brushing his tedious hand away from my shoulder.
Where’s Thomas?
I finally saw Caleb stepping out of the shadows and sauntering toward the living room. There were more people around us, but Nicholas made me feel extremely uneasy.
“I’m just going to grab some water,” I said, walking away.
“Dance with me,” he said, pulling my arm. “I know Tommy doesn’t mind sharing with me every once in a while.” I angrily shoved Nicholas’s hand off my arm, and Caleb blasted off in our direction, clicking on his earpiece.
No!
“Sir, I’m going to ask you back off,” Caleb ordered with a calm tone as his hands rested in a single and relaxed fist in front of him.
“Caleb, I’ve got it. Thank you.” Iclearlydidn’t have things under control. I was having trouble making that jerk leave me alone. Nicholas was that annoying buzzing mosquito you keep flapping around, but it keeps coming back to get you. But I didn’t want to make a scene. People were starting to stare once Caleb joined us.
I took a deep breath when I saw Thomas making his way back to me.
Finally.
“Damn!” Nicholas snickered. “Tommy didn’t mention you had a security detail and shit.” He looked amused; his glare reciprocated by Caleb’s.
“What’s going on?” Thomas asked.
“I see you finally got yourself a decent girl here, Tommy. Daddy must be proud.” He patted Thomas’s back a few times with an exaggerated grin.
I glanced at Thomas, wondering why he wouldn’t shove this prick away because Caleb was a second away from doing it if he didn’t. Aaron and David walked in and stood next to Caleb.
“Backup!” Nicholas hollered with a hysterical laugh. He drained his whiskey and left the glass on a cocktail table behind him. “I see the appeal, Tommy. Not that she didn’t come here looking like a whole snack. Is she a good la—”
“Shut the fuck up,” Thomas said, pushing him away.
“Don’t fucking touch me,” Nicholas replied, echoing Thomas’s shove. “You’re already walking on thin ice.”What?
