“Go get it, William! Please!” I begged.

“Nope.” He balked.

“But these are the only clothes I have with me. I’m sure you have a closet full of things to wear in there.” I pleaded for his help, but he didn’t care. “You’ll go in the pool and get my phone out,” I said, waving my hand in front of his face.

“Did you just Jedi-hand wave me?” He laughed.

“I did. Now go.” I couldn’t hold in a laugh either. But I was out of options. William took a sip of his beer and stared at me, as if thinking what to do next.

Lily and Joel came out, asking what was wrong.

“Guille dropped her phone in the pool, and I’m going to help her get it out!” William yelled back at them. He placed his hand on my back and pushed me into the pool.

“Oh, my God! William!” I shouted, submerged in the water up to my neck. I splashed water at him, but he took a few steps back, laughing—at me.

I dived, retrieved the phone, and placed it on the edge of the pool.

I jumped out and ran in his direction. I tried pulling him toward the pool with absolutely zero success. I kept tugging as hard as I could, but he wouldn’t move an inch. “Don’t get yourself tired unnecessarily.” He kept laughing.

His eyes strayed to my chest, and I groaned with exasperation, covering myself almost automatically. I wanted revenge, but I was helpless. Instead, I stood behind him and tried pushing, but his feet were rooted to the ground like a tree.Impossible.

He sipped on his beer, placed it on the floor, carried me over his shoulder with ease, and dropped me back in the water. Joel laughed, and Lily came out with towels and placed them on the table, shaking her head with a smile.

I flashed a vulgar finger at William, but I think he actually enjoyed the gesture. I tried to get out of the pool again, but he wouldn’t let me. He kept pushing me back every time I approached the edge and tried to pull myself up.

William took his phone out of his pocket and threw it on the grass. He removed his shoes, his shirt, and unzipped his jeans.Lord Almighty! I turned around and heard him jump into the pool a few heartbeats later.

Once inside, he reached the edge and pulled himself up slightly to grab his beer. Thankfully, he kept his underwear on. Black boxer briefs.

“Couldn’t you leave your jeans on or something?” I said, looking away again.

“I wouldn’t want them to get ruined with all the chemicals in the pool.” He explained.

“Oh, I see. So, my jeans can get ruined, but not yours, correct?”

“Exactly. I mean, you’re free to take them off, of course.” He was insane. I splashed him.

“Can I get out now?” I was somewhere between laughing, crying, irritated, yet entertained.

“No,” he replied, wandering in my direction. I kept walking backward and away from him.

“You’re so annoying,” I said, trying to sound angry. But I laughed. I was having fun.

“I know,” he admitted. “And you’re a dorky nerd trying your Jedi tricks on me.” He smiled, then shouted something to Joel. His voice sounded so sexy in Swedish—gravelly, if possible.

“I’m not.”

Joel brought my wineglass and left it on the edge of the pool beside my wet phone. I thanked Joel and walked around William to grab my drink.

“Yes, you are. And I kinda like it,” William said, standing beside me. He grabbed my phone and took the battery out to dry all the parts with his shirt.

Oh, my God! I spotted my green hair tie with the stars around his wrist again. “That’s mine, by the way.”

“It’s definitely not. I’m still blocked, and since you don’t even have a phone now”—he kept drying the parts—“there’s no way for you to unblock me now.”

“I wasn’t planning on it,” I replied. But he just smiled, completely unperturbed by my remark. But how to shake him? Rattle him? That’s his specialty, not mine.

“Do you think Joel or Lily might have any cigarettes?” I asked, placing my wineglass back on the edge of the pool. He stared down at me with a frown, pursing his lips just slightly with disapproval—rattled? The cell phone parts were now dry and resting on top of his t-shirt.
