“He’s still a bastard,” I replied, throwing myself into his arms. Nathan’s lips immediately sought mine. We kissed as if we hadn’t kissed in years. We were both looking forward to tonight—to seeing each other. I missed him, and I knew he missed me too.
“He can give you all the dresses he wants, but I’ll always be the one to take them off you,” he whispered into my ear. My skin reacted to his breath, and tiny sparks of electricity curled all around me.
“How about right now?” I asked, biting into his lower lip.
Nathan shouted something to Joel in Swedish and closed the door behind him. “Now sounds perfect.” He grabbed my hand and guided me toward the elevator.
I unlocked my apartment and saw Nathan’s gift in the foyer. “Your gift,” I said with a smile. “Do you want to open it now or?”
“Or. Definitely or,” he replied, unzipping my dress. “I can’t stop thinking about thelots of thingsyou said you had in mind to make it up to me.” The dress fell to the floor, and he knelt to kiss my stomach, gently kissing his way up, making me gasp. “You’re exquisite.”
He stood behind me and kissed my neck and my shoulders as he guided me toward my bedroom.
I laid in my bed, and Nathan removed his suit. Piece by piece. His eyes were deeply fixed on mine as I waited for him to join me.
He laid beside me and whispered, “I love you,” placing a soft kiss on my lips. It was the first time he told me he loved me. My chest swelled with both joy and excitement. My heart said yes.
“I love you too,” I said in between a slow and delicious kiss.
“We’re not having sex tonight,” Nathan said, kissing my shoulders.
“Why?” I complained. “Are you upset with me? I swear I—”
“Shh.” He placed a finger over my lips, and I took a playful bite on it. A low groan escaped his throat. “Tonight, I’m going to make love to you.”
“Happy birthday,” I whispered in Nathan’s ear. It was already past midnight. We were both still lying together in bed, refusing to let go of one another. I combed the soft waves of his hair with my fingers and said, “Is that a gray hair I see?” His hair was a rich, medium-brown color. Not a single gray hair on his head yet.
He laughed. “Very funny, young lady.” Nathan tickled me as a punishment for teasing him.
“Nathan!” I’m extremely ticklish. “Stop!”
“You’ll be twenty-eight one day, too,” he said, finally releasing me from the torture.
“Yeah, in eight years. I have my entire life ahead of me.” I laughed again.
“Aren’t you cheeky?” Nathan tickled me again.
“Truce!” I shouted in between roars of laughter. He stopped, and I took a deep breath, a chuckle still escaping me here and there. “How about—pizza?” I suggested.
“Splendid,” Nathan replied in his lovely accent.
“I’ll text the guys and see if they can get it for us,” I replied. “I’m starving.”
“Are you sure? We can have it delivered too.”
“Their shift doesn’t end until you leave.” I grabbed my phone from the nightstand.
“Oh. I thought I could spend the night.” He kissed my cheek. “I’m nowhere near done with you.” I could feel my face getting warm. I turned to look at him, and my heart fluttered. He looked so handsome, and we were having fun. I didn’t want him to leave either.
“We could tell them you’re staying over at Joel’s. They won’t believe us, of course,” I said with an exaggerated grin. “But at least the report won’t say you stayed over.”
Aaron replied immediately to my text, indicating they would gladly bring the pizza to us.
“Pizza is on its way.” I stood up and walked to the bathroom. I turned on the shower, and a few seconds later, Nathan joined me.
“Our first shower together,” he said, placing his hands on my waist and a kiss on my shoulder.
“Were you taking me to the opera tomorrow? Today that is.”
