“Oh, you’re fine.” I couldn’t help but laugh too.

William returned with two large plates—one with a mountain of grilled cheese sandwiches and another with wavy potato chips. “Grilled cheese for lunch because my oven and stove are busy right now with more pressing matters.”

“This is perfect, William,” Naomi said. “Thank you so much.”

“Of course.” He took a half sandwich and returned to the kitchen.

“Aaron?” I called. He quickly approached the table. “Lunch is ready. Are you hungry?” I feared he’d starve to death if I didn’t tell him to come and eat. Although he was doing great so far, as I knew it was hard for him to act so casually aroundus.

“Yes, thank you, Miss.”

William returned with a few plates and a couple of wine glasses and left them on the table.

Naomi lifted the bottle of Nemorino’s and said, “What do you say, Hirsch? Ready to fall in love?”

Plot twist.

With a quirk of his eyebrow, Aaron accepted Naomi’s offer and allowed her to pour him a glass.

Lily and Joelnever came out of their room, and it was time to start getting ready for dinner. William assured Naomi they wouldn’t miss it, and I could see she felt relieved when William said that. I was sure she didn’t want to leave until those contracts were signed.

Naomi and I walked upstairs after William promised to join me in a few minutes. He hadn’t stopped working for hours, and now he was out of time to take a break. But either way, he seemed delighted, as he usually did whenever he was in the kitchen.

When Naomi and I reached the top floor, we overheard Lily and Joel arguing inside their room from the hallway. But we both pretended like we didn’t notice.

“I’ll see you in a bit,” I said to Naomi. She nodded.

“Billie?” She said over her shoulder, pulling down the door handle and pushing the door slightly open. “Thanks for everything. I’m having a great time.”

“Of course.” I pressed my lips into a smile. “We’re glad to have you here.” I’d had the chance to get to know Naomi better, and she was such a bright, hardworking, and funny woman. It was easy and fun being around her.

I walked down the hall toward William’s room with Lily andJoel’s voices still filling the air, and it pained me to listen to them arguing like that. Lily and Joel were couple goals. They had to work this out. They just had to.

After curling my hair into soft waves with the hair tool Lily gave me for Christmas, I did my makeup and changed into my New Year’s Eve outfit. It was a simple but sexy golden short dress with a cowl neck and thin straps that crossed behind my back. William insisted I wear it after promising the house would be at an ideal temperature and that I wouldn’t freeze to death.

William arrived the moment I turned off the bathroom lights and stepped into his room.

“Christ.” He swiped me with his gaze as he shut the bedroom door behind him.

“What?” I laughed, and he darted my way, reaching me in a few long strides. William wrapped his arms around my waist. “Can’t we … stay here … all night?” He kissed my neck on every pause and walked backward, leading me toward his bed.

“William,” I warned in a playful tone. “We have to be downstairs in ten mi—” He cut me off by letting himself fall back on the bed and dragging me down with him.

“Maybe a little … nap.” He slid up my dress and squeezed my ass. “I’m tired.” He found the hem of my thong and toyed around with it with his fingers.

“You don’t seem very tired,” I quipped, feeling his growing erection pressing against my belly. “What you need is a cold shower.” Resisting William would forever be the most challenging thing I ever got to do, but Naomi was surely waiting downstairs. Aaron too. We had dinner to host.

He groaned.

“Good things come to those who wait.” I kissed the tip of his nose.

“You know I hate waiting.” He lifted his hips and gyratedthem against me, earning him a jagged breath on my part.

“Stop.” I slapped him softly in a futile attempt to talk some sense into him.

“You’re only making it worse.”

I pushed myself away from the menace he posed on the integrity of my makeup, outfit, and carefully made waves.
