“I handled it.If Icouldn’t, I would have called.”

“Just remember, I have yourback.”

“I remember.”

“Okay, well let’s get tobusiness.”Moe directed.

She began to hand out the lists tothose doing set ups.As they were leaving, she began to give theothers their assignments. This would be the investigations and thebody guarding.Bindi was still thinking about taking oninvestigations but not until she could afford thetraining.

Work fell into a pattern as they hadlittle trouble with their locations.Trouble had picked up at nightand she had two calls the first week. The second was a control boxthat didn’t work and had needed to be replaced.Saturday was stilltwo days away and she wasn’t sure if she looked forward to it ornot.

“Don’t forget your Saturdayis mine.”Duroc whispered. They had just arrived at HQ.

Bindi nodded and they walked in to seeMoe.“You’re off Saturday.”Moe observed.

“Yes.”

“Both of you areoff.”

“That’s good.”Durocoffered.

“We’ll see you tomorrow butthen not until Monday, but Bindi you’ll be on call Sunday night.Okay?”

Bindi nodded. She needed the money, andit hadn’t been that bad. When she actually had to come in, it paideven more.It was still a good thing that she’d not had to go inoften.Duroc drove away as she got in the truck and drove toAriel’s.

Ariel greeted her at the door.“I thinkI found you a place.”

“That’s great.”

“Wait until you see itbefore you’re too happy.”Ariel grinned.

“When can I go seeit?”

“Jack will take you. He’smy boy Friday for now.”

Jack appeared out of nowhere.“Come on.We’ll take a truck. The road is rough.”

They drove across the road and thisroad was rough, but not as bad as the driveway to what looked likean abandoned shed.“Here it is.”Jack motioned to theshed.

“This is livable?”Bindigot out and walked around the shed thinking something might behiding behind it.Nothing was.

“Go inside.”She did asdirected, and it was better inside but not much.“Ariel thought youcould stay here for a while and start on a new house.Lake frontproperty is high, and this is five acres. There is a restriction. It can’t be sold but it can be passed down in your family line. This place is up against pack land. The road will be improved aswill the lake access.Your home has to be built back away from thelake a certain distance.Apparently, whoever built your small housedidn’t know or maybe didn’t care about that.”

“Okay.There’s not much tosee here.”

They drove back in silence. She went toBlake’s office with Ariel so they could talk.“I see you aredisappointed.”Ariel observed.

“It’s not much.”

“No, but the price for theland which already has utilities connected is great. It does haveto sell fast. That seemed to fit the bill. The place isn’t much, but it is livable especially if you are going for a new house. You’ll have the land and can pay it off in no time.Going throughthis step by step, you can pay each step off before moving to thenext doing as much as possible yourself.”

“It sounds good and doablewhen you lay it out like that.Let’s discuss the cost of the landfirst.”Bindi suggested. When that was done, she felt like shecould handle this and end up with a home she would love.

“We’ll file the paperworkin the morning and the place will be yours.I’m amazed you nearlyhad enough money to pay it.Moe says you’re working yourself todeath. That was a good thing you did last night. Most would havecalled the backup person on the contract and left. What you did mayhave saved a life.Possibly even two.Who knows what a little boymight do if he’d gotten panicked?”

“He seemed pretty coolheaded.”

“Joey usually is.I heardhe attacked you?”Ariel asked.
