“You’ll do fine.He’s no match foryou.”Damon assured.
“Yeah, say it often enough I mightstop worrying.”Duroc replied.
“I know you won’t.That’s what mostpeople do when such a big thing is happening.”
“At least I fit in with mostpeople.”
“Let’s all finish up then load.”Damoninstructed.
That was what they did. They headedout and the trip was three hours with brief oneone brief stop.Whenthey arrived, there was a house he would have expected to be a packhouse, but it wasn’t big enough.
“Is that the pack house?”Damon askasked a young wolf standing there staring at them.
“No, it’s the alphas home. That is thepackhouse.”He pointed to a rundown barn.It looked like boards hadfallen off and not been replaced and that roof had toleak.
“My goodness.”Marissa said and shehad a disgusted look on her face.Bindi just nodded inagreement.
“Take me to your alpha.”Damon saidwith a touch of alpha in his voice. The young wolf couldn’t get himthere fast enough. They had been brought to the door but notbrought inside.
“I’ll have to go get him.”
The guy came back with Alpha Allen.“This wasn’t a joke?”
“No one here is laughing. It’s time togo to the circle and get things ready.”Damoninstructed.
“Who are you sacrificing?”
“You’ve been challenged by Duroc.”Damon replied.
“He’s just a pup.”Alpha Alobserved.
“Old enough to challengeyou.”
“Fine.Let’s go.”Al said as he wentto his truck. They all got in their SUVs and followed him.Apparently, the circle wasn’t close.
Tramp and Petie were already therealong with several of Tyne’s people.Duroc felt better to know hehad many friends here. The fight would be on soon and then he’dknow about his future.Petie and Marissa were together whisperingthings that made his hair stand on end.Magic was in theair.
“What are they doing?”Durocasked.
“The last challenger here was shotdead. They are doing a protective spell, so we’ll avoid that.”Damon admitted.
“I feel better now.”
“It won’t cover other risks. You stillneed to be watchful. We’ll all be careful and see whathappens.”
Duroc looked at the circle. They hadbig rocks spaced every three feet around the circle except wherethey had a place for the judge and the spectators. He bet the rockswere local and had been here since not long after the pack wasestablished. The ground was packed so hard it resembledconcrete.
He glanced at the crowd seeing someoneelse he’d not seen in a while. It was the southern WashingtonAlpha, George, and he cast ugly looks at Duroc and those with him. That alpha also kept to himself staying away from everyone else buthis two guards.Change was in the air and George clearly didn’tlike it.Maybe he worried that he might be next.
“Alpha Allen and Duroc please takeyour places.”Damon announced. With Tramp, his father, and Georgethere, it covered the witnesses.
They both entered the circle, and ashot rang out.It bounced off the shield the witches had made.Somepeople gasped, they had not expected that.He had and it hadshocked him anyway.Damon spoke about the history of the challengesand other fights that took place in the circle. Then he paused andsaid begin and his fist slammed into his palm.
Both of them moved closer to eachother circling. It was clear to him this alpha was stalling.Therewas another plan that Duroc needed to be on the look outlookoutfor.Pushing Al into doing something, he crowded him.Al tried topush him back.Did this guy even realize this was afight?
Duroc lashed out and got first bloodby hitting Al in the nose.It dripped blood for a minute thenhealed. He hit him again this time in the jaw then the chest.Alstepped back.He followed him and hit his belly hard three timesfast.Duroc moved up pounding him in the face until it was a bloodymess.Al changed to his wolf, and he followedfollowed, turningfast. The alpha had not planned things out well. His wolf was avicious one and was tearing the challenged alpha up with hisclaws.
Things were going well for him andthere was no doubt he was going to win.Two wolves were runningtoward him.A male in front and a female hanging back some.It wasclear they were jumping into the circle. In a second, Bindi changedand took out the female, but it was too late to take out the male.Al had his back to the wolf that was jumping into the circle, soDuroc crowded him, and Al moved directly into his path.
