“Exactly what you think happened.Youwere a toad.”Marissa offered.

“Aw goddess.Do all white wolves havewitch powers?”

“She’s not a white wolf nor is the newalpha bitch. They just know white wolves.Isn’t thatfunny?”

“Ha ha.I’m laughing on theinside.”

“We’re trying to decide whether tosend you to the council prison or make you work off yoursentence."

“I’d rather work than gothere.”

“If you don’t complete your task, you’ll be put on the council’s wanted list.Marissa find him a jobthat can be done in a day then set him loose.Harry, the nextone.”

They went through them all and setsimilar tasks for them.At the end of the day, she was just gladthey were gone.

Chapter 9

Fixing Things

Durac had toured the third businessand all he could wonder was why the pack wasn’t rich. The lumberbusiness was making huge profits, the fish industry was doing justfine, and their resort near Portland was rolling in money.Hesuspected the money had been funneled to some of those managing thebusinesses and the alpha.

They’d lived high on the hog, to use aterm Ariel liked. The others had lived to varying degrees of middleclass and pure poverty. Some of the shacks he’d seen on pack landslooked pitiful and wouldn’t be staying. But for now, they couldn’ttake them down.It would be one house at a time.Duroc wasimpatient, but he would have to deal with it.

Bindi had sent a message about gettinga permit, but they didn’t need one. This was dealt with as anIndian reservation since members here had members of a rare tribe. That blood was somewhat diluted, but present, nevertheless.Itallowed their resort to have a casino which brought in most of thebusiness and the money.

He immediately gave the boy thatmessage and sent him on his way.Damon was with him and couldprobably give him the best advice.

“Bindi ask about building permits andsaid she has an accountant, Nat is coming and so are helpers fromseveral packs. What do I do about the mess these businesses arein?”

“Nat can help you plug the moneyleaks.New managers are needed once you find out whose fingers arein the till.I suspect all the upper management will have to go.They are all pack members, so you’ll have to find new jobs forthem.”Damon grinned.“Maybe they can start at the bottom learningnew jobs.”

“I can’t believe they’d rob their packblind. These guys make good money.Look at how some of the otherpack members are treated. How can they live with that?”

“They seem to be living quitewell.”

“This can’t go on much longer.”Durocobserved.

“It won’t but get Nat in here first. She’ll probably bring her mate Harvey and after she gets here, shemight need a team.”

“How long do you think before headscan start rolling?”

“The first one shouldn’t take long. You’ll want to plugplug up the biggest leak first. She should beable to get started right away.Sometimes she can reclaim some ofwhat they’ve taken.”Damon suggested.“You might want to have Bindiorder lumber from your mill for all this building. If she buys itelsewhere, you’ll be paying a lot more.”

“You’re right.Jameson, I have a listof needed items.Can you do these?”

“Certainly, Sir.

“My name is Duroc. You can use it ifyou wish.”

His answer was a nod as he got on thelist. He pulled out his phone and called Bindi.Or at least triedto. That worried him but he realized she was probably as busy as hewas.Maybe busier since she’d been thrown in with those that hadsuffered the most from the previous alpha.

Duroc had decided he was keepingJameson. Not in his current job, but he was going with him.Thisguy was amazing in all the tasks he currently did, and he handledadded ones without issue. They were back at the lumber mill whereJameson seemed to run everything and the so called manager didnothing but draw his pay and steal from the pack.

“Jameson, I need to talk to you in theoffice, alone except for the guys with me.”Duroc said.“I’ll needyou to train someone to replace you. You’re getting apromotion.”

“I am?What will this change forme?”

“You’ll have to be working out of thepack grounds.”
