Chapter 3

Headquarters

Bindi was both excited and sad.Whyhadn’t Duroc gone through his change of attitude sooner. She’dnoticed there were still signs of that bad attitude with others, but not with her.Maybe he had reason to be that way with some ofthem.Rita had observed that the patience he’d shown Tammy had beenunbelievable.Everyone had agreed but they’d also been relievedwhen he’d finally had enough.

The Tammy free environment had beenbetter, and everyone had breathed a sigh of relief when she wasgone. Now they were overrun with newbies and soon several of theold hands, herself included, would be gone.Bindi would miss Durocthe most. What did that say?Maybe she shouldn’t assess thosefeelings too closely.

“How are you doing?”Ritaasked.

“I’m okay. It’s not thatI’ll miss this place so much as some of the people.”Her eyessearched out Duroc and Rita turned to see where she waslooking.

“He’s a good lookingman.”

“I hope you’re talkingabout me.”Ray observed as he came up behind her and wrapped hisarms around her.

“Of course,Baby.”

Bindi thought those two made a lovelycouple. They seemed to be in love. Both were easy to get along withand tended to do everything right.Ray and Rita were also humanjust like she was.

She wandered off and wondered if thecouple even noticed.Bindi didn’t feel left out.It was refreshingto see someone could make things work.Their company had gone outof business leaving them both with no jobs and no pension fund.Twokids and a mom had to be taken care of, but they’d managed to do itand rebuild their lives. It showed how strong they were.

Looking around catching the eyes ofsome of the people she worked with. Many of them would be missed.None of them knew who was leaving only that a total of four peoplewere.Sure, she didn’t know who was leaving, but most of those thatworked with her now had gotten their bonuses and could leaveanytime. It looked like some of them planned to.

“Bindi.”He breathed hername in her ear.

She shivered but turned to face him.“Nice party, huh?”

“Not bad.Hopefully therewon’t be another Tammy in this group.”Duroc observed.

“I’m not sure Rita couldhandle it.”

“Did you know Tammy isstill lurking around here?”

“How can she afford it?”Bindi wondered.

“Rita and I suspect she’sstaying with a local.I think if she is, that’s a male.”

“Down here a femalewouldn’t have a hard time finding a man to take care ofher.”

“You’re right. But Iwouldn’t check on her. That woman might think I was interested andget even worse.”Duroc admitted.

“She hit onyou?”

“All the time but that lastday she put more effort into it.No one would want that behaviorall day.”

“You put up with her a longtime.”Bindi pointed out.

“That I could ignore, hernot helping put us at the bottom of the list.We were getting lessdone than the other pairs of specialists. Can you imagine theteasing I got from the other guys.”

“I believe I do.”Bindigrinned.

“Think it’s funny,huh?”

“Just a littlebit.”

“That woman was lazy to thebone.I think she could have done the work had she been willingto.”

“Maybe she found somethingthat suited her better.”
