Gabriel leans forward in his seat, forearms on his thighs. “I see that you’re angry, I would be too. Let’s get to the bottom of this together.”
“How am I ever supposed to trust you! When my father died, IcorTech jumped at the opportunity to—”
“Yeah, I know. I’m well aware of how my business operates. I stand behind my company’s decision.”
It feels like fire is coursing through my veins. I grit my teeth, trying desperately to control my anger.
“It has to be someone working with ALAN, someone with access to the technology. They promised to hand him over to me. Now, you tell me, who would have access to ALAN?”
The thing is, very few people have full access to ALAN, just Elliot, Luke, and myself.
“It’s impossible—”
“Nothing is impossible,” Gabriel says. “I’m not sure if you’ve caught wind of this, but one of my board members had been selling me out—”
“Tom,” I say with a cocked brow.
“Yeah, I guess he was my brother from another mother. Instead of trying to work with me, he worked against me—to his detriment. I know betrayal.”
A sick feeling twists in my gut.
“I know this is a lot to take in, which is why we’re here for you, offering to help. Zevran, myself, there are others, we’ll do whatever it takes to see that justice is served.”
I get up from my seat, angry and more than a little afraid. Gabriel may be an asshole, but he’s telling the truth. Someone in my company is selling me out, and there are very few people that could possibly be behind this.
Without a word, I leave, proceed to the elevator, and head on back to my office to mull over the situation.

I look around the room, making sure I’ve packed all of my meager possessions. My Uber will be here in an hour, and then I start a new life. One with so many unknowns, it’s hard not to be afraid.
For now, I’ll have to use the phone Drake’s given me until Luke can get my own phone back. Everything on there is being forwarded to this one anyway, so I’m not missing out on any calls, I just want to be free of anything that reminds me of Drake.
I enter into Stephanie’s text box:
Grace:I think I’m gonna do it. Save me an anchor chair!
Stephanie:Yay! This is a good choice!
Grace:I have an interview set up for next week. Now, what to wear?
Stephanie:lol
I exit out of the text box to make sure my flights are in order. I’m staying a couple days with Luke and Amanda before heading on over to Seattle to meet with the CEO of Top Off News, Jack Burner. Once I’ve verified the details, I decide to surf the internet because I have almost an hour to kill.
Another cooking show with a celebrity. Actor goes to rehab. A beautiful multi-million-dollar home is new to the market. Dis-Graced journalist—
Oh, no!
I set down my phone and try to steady my breathing. I had thought that after a month, the headlines would have died down, but apparently, I was wrong.
Look at the damn headline. Know what they’re saying about you.
I pick my phone back up and look at the headline.
