“So, my sister thinks we’re moving a little fast.”

“Lightning speed,” I reply back. “And still not fast enough.”

Her head tilts to the side. “Not fast enough? I’m already spending four nights a week at your house, and we see each other every day.”

“Yeah, but I’m dreaming of a time when I never have to wake up without you there.”

She sets down her drink. “You better not be pulling my leg!”

“I’m serious. I adore you, Lacy. Ever since that first night you slept over at my place, I’ve been committed. I’m just waiting for you to catch up.”

“Catch up? What do you mean?”

“I’d marry you tomorrow if I could. I’d move every last piece of your furniture into my place. I want it all, you, Michael, babies—everything.”

“We’ve talked about getting married next year.”

“Yeah, because I’m trying to give you and Michael time to get to know each other. Feel each other out.”

“Oh…”

“Turns out, Michael loves you too. He was complaining this morning that he hates when I get him out of bed. He wants you.”

“Michael wants me there?”

“He actually asked me what you wanted him to call you. I think he’s itching to try out the word mom eventually.”

Her eyes light in surprise. “Oh my God, that’s amazing!”

“He’s always wanted a mother figure in his life. I was just being choosy. Turns out, it was worth the wait.”

The smile that blooms on her lips damn near melts me. I’ve never cared for a woman as much as I care for Lacy. Which means I’m gonna make her my wife.

“So, I take it you’re not opposed when the time comes if it slips out?”

“No! Not in the least! Oh my God, I’d be honored if he called me that.”

“I must confess, I’ve been looking at rings a lot lately. The heart-shaped ones speak to me, but I know how women are with diamonds. So particular.”

“I don’t care if you give me one out of a Cracker Jack box!” she squeals.

“I would consider that, but Cracker Jacks are highly unhealthy, and I don’t want to be giving my money to those of ill-repute.”

“You mean, like Savage Sweets?” she says with an arched brow.

“How do you feel about a rebranding?” I ask with a smirk. “Like…Savage Sushi!”

She rolls her eyes and bites into her taco.

“Comes with a side of ass worms,” I add.

I regret my words after she nearly chokes on her food, but there’s still a smile on her face, and I feel good for having put it there.

My hands dart across the table, wrapping over hers. “I really do love you.”

“I love you too,” she returns, smiling softly at me.

I’m such a lucky man.
