The ‘astronaut’ gracefully crosses from Lance over to me. My gut twists, and my eyes seek Tessa, but she’s gone, vanished to wherever celestial beings go when they grow bored with mere mortals.

Yep, I got it bad, and judging by how this little obsession of mine has bloomed over the last few years, it’s only going to get worse.

Time moves slowly as fake people vie for my attention. I turn down countless invites from various women, all of whom move swiftly onto other targets.

I grab another drink, hoping to fill the emptiness that’s been expanding within me, draining me of joy.

My phone buzzes, alerting me that someone is using the key code to my penthouse. I pull up the feed and see Tessa exit the elevator into my home.

That’s strange.

Lance lives with me, so maybe he asked her to run an errand.

“Did you send your sister to fetch anything?”

He quirks a brow. “Nah, why?”

“No reason,” I lie. I gesture to a woman at the bar. She’s an heiress, more likely to be in search of a good time than a quick buck. “The girl on your arm is pretty, but advantageous while that one eyeing you over there is downright dirty and enthusiastic.”

He snorts. “More likely, she’s eyeing you.”

“You’re going to want to trust me on this.” I give him a wink. “And I’m sure she’ll play well with the girl you’re already entertaining.”

That got his attention.

“Wish me luck.” He starts in her direction, the pretty dumbass in tow.

Time to make my exit and see what Tessa Campbell is up to.

CHAPTER2

TESSA

The last place I should be is in Atticus Savage’s penthouse, two hours past my reasonable for a Golden Girl bedtime of nine p.m., but when Ashley Benson dares you to do something, you reluctantly do it so she’ll shut the hell up.

Or at least that’s what I tell myself. I have my own reasons for wanting to complete the mission at hand.

I know Atticus Savage is the last person I should lust for. Growing up, he was my brother’s best friend, a title he never outgrew. My girlhood heart never cared about that, though, and what was once an innocent crush, has since turned into a fiery inferno.

The door to his office is locked, and I’m not about to pick it, so I search the other areas.

My phone vibrates with a text from Ashley. Cindy, our hairdresser and newest bestie, is included in the chat.

Ashley:Have you found it yet?

Cindy:Can you send me a picture of what a billionaire’s penthouse looks like?

Have I found it?She acts like Atticus just leaves his most prized possession out where the maids can snatch it. It’s got to be worth eight figures on the market. Maybe nine. After all, it’s ground-breaking technology that will revolutionize the world.

I shove my phone in my pocket, prepared to leave, but a nagging feeling in my gut tells me there’s one place I’ve yet to explore: his bedroom.

Which is a place I should never go, but my stupid head is clouded and I’m curious. I can’t stop myself.

Be quick. Don’t move a thing.

I enter on tip-toes, nearly falling when a wave of dizziness crashes over me.

You’ve literally had two drinks. Pull yourself together.
