I pulled two separate small stacks of paper from my briefcase and stood. She watched me curiously as I walked around her desk. “I met with Trent yesterday.”

Her tone changed. “Okay, I’m listening.”

“He’s making two settlement offers.”

“Two?” She furrowed her brow.

“Two for Ava to choose from.”

“Okay, let me see them.” She stuck out her hand.

I shook my head and leaned against her desk, holding the papers back. “But I have a stipulation.”

“What?” She chuckled. “Youhave a stipulation?”

“I do.”

“And what’s that?”

I leaned down and whispered into her ear, “You give me a chance.”

“Booker—”

Still an inch from her ear, I said low, “Listen to me, gorgeous. If you only want to be with me once a month at Sensation, then come in two weeks.”

“I’m not interested in joining in on your—swinging.”

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I needed to use my words wisely. I stood and buttoned my jacket. “To partake in swinging, you would need to have been intimate with your partner to, therefore, have swapped.”

“What does that mean?”

I set the papers on her desk, knowing the conversation wasn’t going to go the way I’d wanted. “I told you that I would tell you at Sensation. You have two weeks to decide if you want to come. You know how to become a guest. Do it under my name. Do it under Ava’s. I don’t care as long as you do it. Show up, and I’ll tell you what I mean. Don’t show up, and I’ll go back to being opposing counsel only.”

“What about your settlement offers?”

I made my way toward the closed door. “Review the settlement agreements and have Ava decide what she wants to do. If she doesn’t agree, then we go to court. You know I like to fight. But in this case, I hope Ava chooses to stay with Trent.”

“Stay with Trent?”

With my hand on the doorknob, I said, “Like me, gorgeous. When he wants a woman, he’s persistent.”
