I laughed—hard. There was no way I was going to tell her about my sexcapades. Therefore, I changed the subject to her love life. She didn’t mind sharing details.

Booker didn’t call Sunday. I figured by tomorrow he really meant Monday and not a few hours away. It was okay with me, but I had a hard time sleeping. I kept thinking about him and our night at Sensation. I’d been starving before we were together, and now I was dying of thirst without him.

I made it to the office after a quick appearance in court. It was a status conference, and since the case was going smoothly, a settlement conference was set because we felt we could reach an agreement. To my displeasure, I didn’t see Booker. I really just wanted to see him again. Have him kiss me like he neededmeto breathe.

After saying hello to Maria as I entered the doors of Chandler and Patterson, I made my way down the hall to my office. The moment my gaze connected with Lorelei’s, she grinned.

“What’s that look for?”

She shrugged. “No reason.”

“Why don’t I believe you?”

She shrugged again, not responding.

“Any messages?” I prompted.

Lorelei handed me a few message slips, still not saying anything.

“Thanks,” I responded and started to walk into my office only to stop dead in my tracks when I noticed the bouquet of red roses sitting on my desk. I turned my head to Lorelei, and she grinned. I grabbed the tiny card that was sticking in between a few stems.

Gorgeous,

For every hour I’ve been missing you.

Mr. Romantic

I laughed slightly at the note. Guess I couldn’t refer to him as not being romantic any longer. Lorelei was staring at me as I looked over to her desk. She smiled, and I realized I was too. I set the roses on the credenza behind my desk and thumbed through the messages I’d set down when I read the note. Booker had called.

Once I sat in my chair and took a deep breath, I dialed his number. When a receptionist answered, I realized it was his office number.

“Booker Jameson, please.”

“May I ask who’s calling?”

“Peyton Winters.”

“Which case is this in regards to?”

Ahh.“Um, Ashley versus Inglewood,” I lied.

“Please hold.”

I took another breath as I leaned back in my chair and waited for Booker to get on the line. I swear I could feel Lorelei’s eyes on me, and I knew at lunch I’d be grilled once again. Maybe Ishouldfind a way for her to come to Sensation. That way she could have her own stories and not want to know mine.

“Miss me?”

A shiver washed over me as I heard his accent through the phone. God, it was sexy and so was he. Especially with his muscular body and tattoos that not everyone got to see. “Yes,” I admitted. “Thank you for the roses.”

“You’re welcome, gorgeous.”

“People are going to ask about them.” I bit my lip and looked to Lorelei to in fact see her still staring at me. I shooed her away and glared.

“Let them ask. I didn’t put my name on them.”

I smiled. “I know, Mr. Romantic. But I haven’t gotten flowers delivered—well, ever.”

“Now you have. And every time you look at them, you’ll think of me.”
