I reached for him, pulling his head toward me, and sealed my lips over his. “Well?” I asked.
He laughed slightly as he stayed in me. “It was better than I’d imagined.”
“What did you imagine?”
“That I would be the one on my back.”
I kissed him again quickly. “No, babe, that’s for next time.”
After we’d cleaned up and showered, we both fell asleep in his bed, exhausted.
My alarm went off not long after I’d closed my eyes, and I whined. I literally whined as I shut it off because that meant I would have to leave Slate for at least ten days. Thankfully, I’d already set my alarm as I headed over to his house because I was hopeful that we’d have a long night. It went into the wee hours of the morning, and with only a few hours of sleep, I had to leave to get back to the hotel and get on our bus for our twelve plus hour drive to Denver.
“You have to leave?” he asked.
I kissed his cheek as I still had my arms around him from behind. “Yeah. Bus is leaving in an hour.”
“What time is it?”
“Five.”
He groaned. “I don’t want you to leave.”
I smiled against his head. “I don’t either, but until Flirting with Fire has millions rolling in, we have to drive and not fly.”
“I know. I’m just going to miss you.”
“You’ll see me at Sensation soon.”
“How about I just come over to your place instead?” He turned onto his back and looked up at me as I leaned on my elbow.
“While I’d love that, the guys have a habit of dropping by unannounced, and I don’t think you want them to know.”
Slate sighed. “Oh, right. I just … want to stay in our bubble.”
“Maybe I can come visit the weekend after Sensation,” I suggested.
“I think we’re in Florida that weekend.”
I blew out a breath and looked up at the ceiling. “I think during the week the guys and I are recording.”
“Oh.”
I smiled and kissed his lips. “We’ll figure it out. First, let’s just enjoy Sensation on Saturday.”
“Okay.”
After I got dressed, Slate walked me to the door. The sun was starting to rise over the mountains, and the Uber I’d called was waiting at the curb. I turned back to Slate, cupping his cheek as he stood off to the side of the slightly opened door, and I shielded him from the view of the driver. “Call me tonight after your game. I’ll be up.”
“I can’t. We’re flying to Miami right after the game.”
“Really?”
He nodded. “Yeah. We sleep on the plane, get a few hours of sleep once we get to our hotel, and then play tomorrow night.”
“Damn. I thought driving twelve hours was brutal. You have to play an entire game and sleep on a plane? That sucks.”
“I’m used to it." He shrugged. “I’ll call you tomorrow night after our game.”
