Frankie looked up at me again, and it took everything in me to not lower my head and press my lips to hers. “Tomorrow, I’ll break it off with Candace.”

“Okay.” She sighed.

“And I’ll call my captain first thing tomorrow to start the paperwork for my private detail.”

“How much do you want to be paid?” she asked, still looking up at me as we continued to hug.

A devilish grin spread across my lips. “It’s not with money, that’s for sure.”

FRANKIE

Beingthe gentleman that he was, Luke slept on the couch and gave me his bed. Even though we both wanted him to sleep next to me, we also knew we shouldn’t.

I fell asleep knowing he was in the other room and nothing would happen to me. When I woke the next morning, I smelled the yummy scent of bacon in the air. Amore wasn’t next to me as usual, and when I walked out to Luke’s living room wearing a tank top and sleep shorts, I realized why. Luke had made breakfast and was giving Amore eggs.

“You’re going to spoil him.”

“Eggs are an excellent source of protein, fatty acids, and vitamins. They will only make him stronger.”

“I think he’s strong enough, or are you forgetting yesterday when he tore the leash out of your hand?”

“To be fair, I wasn’t gripping it tightly.”

“True.”

Luke stood. “Want some coffee?”

I followed him the short distance to the counter where his Keurig was. “I can do it, roomie.” I winked.

He grinned and pointed. “All right. Mugs are in the cabinet above the coffeemaker. Do you need help making an egg?”

“I can’t make eggs, remember?”

“Then we’ll have your first cooking lesson right now.”

I chuckled. “All right.”

While I made my coffee, Luke grabbed everything he needed to cook an egg. There was already a pan on the stove and a bowl on the counter.

“Okay, crack this egg into the bowl.” He handed me the egg.

I hesitated for a moment, then tapped the egg on the edge of the bowl. It did nothing.

Luke grunted a laugh. “Do it harder than that.”

So, I did. The shell broke into a few pieces, and the inside of the egg went into the bowl and on my hand. “Gross.”

“Throw the shell away and wash your hands.” He shook his head, smiling.

“You think it’s hilarious I can’t cook, huh?”

“I think it’s funny you don’t know the force you need to crack an egg properly.”

“I’ve never done this before.”

Luke brought me against his body. “I know, and it’s cute.”
