“Cute?” I looked up at him. “You find this cute?”
“I findyoucute, Franks.”
“I guess you are, too,” I teased.
We stared at each other with huge grins on our faces.
Please kiss me.
A knock rapped on his door and we both turned our heads to look at it. “Expecting someone this early?”
Luke sighed and stepped back. “There’s only one person it could be.”
“Candace?”
He nodded.
“You invited her over?”
“No.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “But she has a habit of just showing up.”
“Are you ready to talk to her?”
“I’m ready to kiss you whenever I want,” he admitted.
My face heated. “I’m ready for that too.”
Another knock.
“I better go deal with her.”
“Should I stay here?” I asked.
“Yeah. I’m not breaking up with her in my apartment. That would probably be a disaster.”
I looked down at the yolk in the bowl. “Guess teaching me to cook can wait.”
“There’s always dinner.” Luke kissed my cheek and then went to the door. “Have some bacon, and I’ll be back.”
“All right.”
I didn’t know what to do, so I stood in his kitchen, grabbed my freshly brewed cup of coffee, and took a sip. Amore followed Luke to the door, and I just stared. It felt as though I was watching Luke and his friends from my bedroom window as I’d done many times growing up, but this time, he knew I was there. And he wasn’t about to go have fun with his friends. He was breaking up with his girlfriend of six months.
I couldn’t wait to experience adult Luke.
He opened the door, and Amore barked and growled at who I assumed was Candace. “Hey,” Luke greeted.
“You have her dog?” Candace snapped.
“I …” Luke looked over at me, and the door opened wider, Candace’s hand pushing it.
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.” She eyed me up and down, and I had to assume she thought we’d spent the night together in his bed since I was in a tank top and sleep shorts.
“We need to talk,” Luke stated.
“Not in front of her!” Candace waved her hand in my direction.
“Frankie needs to stay here. Let’s go to your car.”
