“FaceTiming.”
“Oh!” My eyes widened.
“I have to answer, or she’ll think I’m dead.”
“What?” I chuckled.
“Hazard of the job.”
“Oh, right.”
“But you know I’m going to have to tell her I’m your bodyguard.”
“Okay.”
“But you don’t need to be on camera. We can pretend you’re not here.”
I started to nod, but Amore barked. “Yeah, I don’t think that’s going to work.”
“Then, here we go.”

LUKE
I could still feelFrankie’s lips on mine as I kept my eyes on her while answering the call from my sister. A huge ass smile spanned my face, and it wasn’t because Lucy was calling to make sure I was alive like she always did on at least one of my days off. I knew Frankie needed time because of her attack, but I had wanted to kiss her forever.
“Hey, sis. What’s up?”
“Just calling to check on my baby brother.”
“I’m”—I looked at Frankie and winked—“amazing.”
Lucy sucked in a breath. “Oh my god. Do you have a girl there?”
“I do.” I grinned.
Frankie came into view on the phone and waved. “Hey, Luce.”
“Oh … Hey, Frankie.”
“So, we have some news,” I said.
“Okay …?” Lucy asked hesitantly.
I wrapped my arm around Frankie and brought her against my side. “Franks hired me to be her bodyguard.”
Lucy blinked. “Seriously?”
Frankie spoke to Lucy. “You know how the last time we spoke, I explained why Luke was at my house?”
“Uh-huh.” Lucy nodded.
“The same guy—well, we think it was the same guy, and I guess we hope it was the same guy—broke in and tried to … um …” Frankie swallowed, and without thinking, I kissed the side of her head. “Tried to rape me.”
Lucy’s mouth dropped open. “Oh my god, Frankie. Are you okay?”
“Yeah, thanks to this guy.” She hooked her thumb in my direction.
