LUKE

Me:Everything ready?

Emily:Yep.

I slid my phone into my jeans as I walked into the kitchen of the Kansas rental home. We’d stayed another day there to spend time with my parents, who’d left early in the morning to head back to Tennessee. Since we had no home to get back to in California, we had scheduled our plane to leave midday. However, I had other plans. “Ready, baby?”

Frankie turned. “I’m nauseous again.” She had a bottle of water in her hand.

I arched a brow. “Again?”

“It has to be the humidity,” she said.

“About that.” I rubbed the back of my neck. “I have a surprise for you.”

She blinked. “A surprise?”

“I don’t want to ruin it, but we’re not going back to LA today.”

“Where are we going?”

“Do you trust me?” I grinned.

“I do, but—”

“No buts. Just go along with it, okay?”

“Okay,” she said skeptically.

I grabbed our bags and loaded the car as she let Amore go to the bathroom. Once he was done, we got into the rental car, and I drove to the airport, where a private plane was waiting. The plane was scheduled to take us to LA, but I’d asked Emily to arrange for it to make a brief pit stop in the opposite direction first.

We boarded the plane, and once it took off, Frankie asked, “Are you going to tell me where we’re going?”

“Do you want me to?” The destination wasn’t a tremendous secret, and in a few short hours, she would know where we were.

“Yes.”

“Nashville.”

She blinked. “Nashville?”

“Well, more specifically, twenty minutes outside of Nashville.”

“Why?” She exhaled.

“I have to pick something up.”

“You have to go all the way to Nashville to pick something up?” I nodded. “And what is that?”

“Well, that’s the secret, baby.”

“Are you telling me we’re taking a private plane for an errand?”

I snorted a laugh. “Not exactly.”

“I don’t understand then.”
