She squeezed my knee. “No, it’s not like that.”

“Okay?” I asked hesitantly and swallowed my food.

“I have a way for you to make money.”

“Okay?” I asked again.

She let out a long breath. “First, how do you think I can afford rent and food, and everything I buy?”

I lifted a shoulder. “Your parents?” I’d never asked, but I’d assumed her parents were giving her money since she didn’t have a job.

Molly shook her head. “No, I have a job.”

I blinked. “You do? Where?”

She nodded slowly with a knowing smile. “Sweethearts.”

My brow furrowed. “The dating app?”

“It’s more than a dating platform, Stace.”

“What do you mean?” Food and sleep were forgotten as I listened to her explain what thejobwould entail.

“The men on there are loaded, and they want arm candy. They want to spend their money on pretty girls, so they look good.”

“A sugar daddy?” I questioned.

Molly bobbed her head. “Exactly.”

“Wait.” I held up my hands. “You sleep with old dudes for cash?”

She snorted. “It’s not like that.”

“That’s what it sounds like.”

“First of all, the sex comes after a few dates, and second of all, they aren’t all old.”

“And that makes it better? I don’t want to have sex for money,” I argued.

“I didn’t either when I first started.”

“But you do,” I continued to debate.

“It took me time, but yes.”

“And you’re okay with that?”

“Look, Stace, these men understand how it works. The men are vetted and go through an application process. The company makes sure they are legit, and before a date, you lay it out there that you want to take things slow. If you aren’t vibing with a guy, then don’t see him again. It’s that simple.”

“Isn’t it dangerous, though?” The thought of going out with someone I met online was nerve-wracking.

“I’ll help you set up your profile with a fake name, and we’ll work on your sugar identity.”

“Sugar identity?”

“Yes. You can’t be you.”

“Why?”
