“Nah. I’ll just go to his place.”

“All right. See you in the morning and I’ll have a big cup of coffee waiting for you.”

“As I said before, you’re the best.”

It had beena busy week at work, and I was leaving the office later than I had planned. I drove past the address Tyler Statler had sent me for Fallon’s bachelor party. On the front of the brick building, huge, neon pink letters announced “The Illusion Lounge,” and I instantly recognized it as the home of one of Boston’s most well-known drag shows.

When discussing how to celebrate Fallon’s upcoming nuptials, he asked for something fun but low-key. I wasn’t sure how a drag show would fit that request, but I couldn’t wait to find out.

I pulled into a parking garage a couple of blocks away and found a space. Once I parked and locked up Betsy, I started the short walk to the lounge.

Heading inside, I saw Agents Vance and Shea standing near the table where Fallon and Tyler were sitting with Fallon’s sister Faye and Sean’s daughter Morgan. I let out a small sigh because I didn’t particularly care for Faye. While Fallon was down-to-earth and laid-back, Faye was the opposite and came across as elitist and conceited. I hadn’t interacted with her or Morgan much during the weekend on Cape Cod, but I was also under the impression they felt as though they were too good to be associated with me. For whatever reason, there had been a few eye rolls and the look of disgust on their faces over that short weekend. It didn’t bother me because I wasn’t looking to be friends with them.

Still, this was my friend’s bachelor party, and if he wanted his sister to be a part of it, who was I to complain?

“What’s up, party people?” I called out over the music playing as I approached the group.

“Declan!” Fallon stood and hugged me.

“Sorry for running late.”

“No worries. We’re still waiting for Marco and Luca.”

“Yeah.” Tyler stood and shook my hand. “Hopefully, they’ll get here in time for dinner.”

I lifted an eyebrow. “Dinner?”

He nodded. “They do a dinner show here, and after, we’re going to the nightclub downstairs to meet up with Rhett and his friends.”

“That’s cool,” I replied as I took a seat between Fallon and his sister. “Hi Faye, Morgan,” I greeted.

“Hello, Declan,” Faye responded coolly.

Morgan said nothing, but it was possible she hadn’t heard me because of the music.

Soon, our server came over to take my drink order. I scanned the drink menu and chose a sherry blossom cocktail made with strawberry vodka and champagne.

As the server walked away, Faye and Morgan excused themselves to go to the restroom, leaving Fallon, Tyler, and me to chat.

“How’s married life?” I asked Tyler.

“It’s good, we actually just got selected by a birth mom to adopt her baby.”

“Holy shit,” Fallon and I said at the same time.

“Yeah. She’s not due until the spring so we have some time, but it’s still scary.”

“That’s amazing,” I stated. “Congrats.”

“Thanks.” Tyler beamed.

Fallon stood and hugged Tyler. “Yeah, congrats. Parent life is fun when they don’t throw tantrums over having to eat something other than snacks.”

“Can’t wait to come to you for parenting advice.” Tyler slapped Fallon’s back as they hugged.

“Me either, and when she’s old enough, Poppy will be your babysitter.” The two guys pulled apart and Fallon’s gaze landed behind me.

“Hey, guys!” he said.
