Okay. Have fun and be safe
I continued down the street and texted Ryan next.
Do you have plans tonight? I might be looking at a condo and would like a second opinion
Sorry Dad. I’ve got a work dinner to attend
Guess I was going to be on my own again.
No problem. I’ll let you know how it goes
When I arrived back at the office, I went straight to the conference room and found Declan working alone. “Hey, where’s Camille?”
His head snapped up. “Oh, hey. She left to take a call.”
I dropped into my chair and opened my laptop. “Anything important come up while I was gone?”
He shook his head. “Nope. I’ve just been reviewing some of the documents the prosecutor’s office sent over recently. How was the condo?”
“Not great. It definitely wasn’t the one for me. The problem is I’m not sure what exactly I’m looking for. I might look at another place this evening, so I asked my kids to go with me, but both are busy, so I might cancel.”
“Don’t do that. What if that place is your dream home?”
I shrugged. “It’s just a little overwhelming. I’ve lived in the same house for twenty years, and this is a big change.”
“What if I went with you?”
My eyes widened. “You want to go look at a condo with me?”
“Why not? I’ve got nothing else to do, and I’ve never been condo hunting before.”
Spending time with Declan outside of the office was probably a bad idea, but that didn’t stop me from agreeing. “Okay. I’ll let you know what time as soon as I hear from my agent.”
At six o’clock,Declan and I walked a few blocks to meet Rita. As we approached the building she’d sent me the information for, she was already waiting for us outside.
“Hello again, Sean. This must be your son.”
Declan and I both laughed awkwardly at her assumption.
“Actually, my kids were both busy tonight. This is my coworker, Declan. Declan, this is Rita.”
“Nice to meet you.” Declan offered her his hand.
“Likewise.” She shook his hand. “Now, let’s head inside.”
We entered the lobby, and Rita spoke to the man sitting at the concierge desk. “Peter, we’re going to head up now.”
He nodded as we passed him on our way to the elevator. When we stepped inside, she pressed the button for the twenty-fourth floor.
“Okay, you said you wanted something smaller than the last condo I showed you.”
“Yeah, I definitely want to downsize.”
“Well, this one has three bedrooms and two baths.”
The elevator doors slid open, and we followed her down the hallway to the unit we were viewing. Once we stepped inside, I immediately noticed the difference between this place and the one I’d viewed earlier. It felt like an actual home, as opposed to a museum. But it still had all the modern amenities I could want.
“You need to check out this view,” Declan announced as he looked out the floor-to-ceiling windows.
