“Hilarious. Just for that, I’m not telling you what I found out today,” Morgan taunted.
“Morgan!” I whipped my head in her direction.
“What’s going on?” Ryan asked.
“Nothing,” I replied at the same time as Morgan blurted out, “Dad has a boyfriend.”
“What?” Ryan gasped. “Did you just say Dad has a boyfriend?”
“I sure did.”
I glared at my daughter, and she rolled her eyes as if she knew I wasn’t truly upset with her. Our family rarely kept things from each other, so I figured it was only a matter of time before my son found out too.
“Who is this guy?” Ryan asked.
“He won’t tell me,” Morgan whined. “Claims they’re taking things slow.”
“C’mon, Dad. You gotta let us meet him.”
You already have.
I shook my head to stop thinking about the fact Ryan and I had been intimate with the same man. It wasn’t so much that I had an issue with it; I just found it odd and preferred not to focus on that detail.
“You will eventually. We just need a little more time,” I explained.
“Okay.” He sighed. “I was just calling to let you know I won’t make it to dinner on Monday. The guys and I extended our ski trip another day.”
Despite not being able to borrow the Escalade, Ryan had still headed to the mountains right after Thanksgiving dinner for a weekend of skiing.
“We can reschedule,” I said. “Have fun.”
“Thanks, Dad. I’ll talk to you later.”
“Bye.”
“Bye, Ryan. I’ll let you know if I find out any more information,” Morgan stated.
“Sounds good, Sis.”
I shook my head and disconnected the call.
Later that night,as I lay in bed, I decided to let Declan know my kids had found out I was dating again. I considered calling him, but he was still in Pennsylvania visiting his mom, and I didn’t want to pull him away from whatever he was doing, so I texted him instead:
Hey! How’s your visit going?
I didn’t have to wait long for a response:
It’s been good. I’ve missed my mom a lot, so this trip was just what I needed
That’s great. I’m sure she’s happy you’re there
She is. What have you been up to today?
I went shopping with Morgan
I hit send and then typed out another message:
She found out I’m dating someone
