“Red Sox and Astros,” Jesse replied.
Cash popped his head out of his bunk. “Who’s winning?”
“Red Sox. Two to one.”
Cash groaned, and Elliott looked at him. “Wait. You’re an Astros fan?”
“All my life.” Cash grinned.
I hopped down from my bed. “Let’s go watch.”
He got up and followed me to the back.
“Just when I thought we could be friends.” Jesse laughed, shaking his head. “I don’t know if it’s possible now if you’re rooting against the Red Sox.”
Cash dropped onto the couch. “I promise I’ll cheer for them when they aren’t playing Houston.”
“Deal,” Jesse said, turning up the game.
I stretched out beside Cash, my knee bumping against his, and to my surprise, he didn’t pull away.
A few seconds later, Malachi and Jasper joined us, taking up the seats at the end. From the corner of my eye, I saw Cash stiffen slightlyas he glanced their way. It made me wonder if he was checking to see if they noticed how close we were sitting.
I expected him to scoot over a little, but when it was clear everyone’s focus was on the TV, he relaxed and gave me a small smile.
He stayed where he was, and we continued watching the game with our thighs pressed together. Like a kid with a crush, my body tingled from the slight contact between us.
Maybe he’d finally worked through whatever was going on in his head. At least I hoped he had, because all I could think about was what I wanted to happen when we were alone again.

The Arizona heathit me the second we stepped off the bus at the hotel the band was staying at, but it wasn’t as bad as I had expected.
Silas slipped his sunglasses on and looked over at me. “Holy shit, it’s hotter here than in Vegas.”
I chuckled. “Dry heat is easy. Try standing outside in Texas in the middle of August with a hundred percent humidity.”
“No thanks,” he grumbled.
“You’ll be there at the beginning of August, though,” I reminded him. The date was like a neon sign flashing over our heads because, as it turned out, that was the end of our six weeks together.
The plan was to hop on a plane in Austin and head back to Boston, but given everything that had happened with Britt, I had no idea what I would do when I got there. I hadn’t even thought about it because my ex’s brother was distracting me to the point I’d forgotten about her and the mess waiting for me. Or maybe it was a case of “out of sight, out of mind.” I was certain that after my time with Silas was finished, everything would hit me like a ton of bricks. And all of that would be happening sooner rather than later because Surrender only had five more shows left before Silas and I parted ways.
Rina came over and handed us our keys and we headed for our room.
“Yeah, and thank god for air conditioning. So, what’s the plan?” he asked as we stepped onto the elevator.
We had the day off before the band’s show the next night in Phoenix, so it made sense to get out and do something.
“I’m guessing something with AC?” I teased.
He laughed. “One hundred percent. You ever been here before?”
I shook my head as the elevator ascended. “Not really. Been through Arizona on the way to Vegas once but never stopped to see anything.”
Silas pulled out his phone, searching for something. “We could check out Sedona.”
