“A week? I could totally plan something in that amount of time,” she countered. “It won’t be anything extravagant, but we could have food and dancing after your ceremony.”
“I like dancing,” Grady chimed in.
“Me too, G.” I squeezed his shoulder.
Crew blinked. “You’d really plan everything for us?”
“Of course I would.” Mal smiled. “You two are family. Plus, I want Grady to remember the day he got to watch his father marry the love of his life.”
My throat tightened, and when I looked at Crew, his eyes looked glassy.
He nodded. “Okay. Looks like we’re having a backyard wedding.”
We weresix days away from our quickie wedding, and since we had a day off between series, Mallory sent us to a boutique in the Pearl District to pick out the suits for our big day. The store was next door to a French bakery and a tea bar. It wasn’t our usual scene, but still fun to check out.
“I feel underdressed walking in here,” Crew muttered as we walked into the shop. A sales associate hurried over to greet us and offer us sparkling water which we both declined.
“My name is Madeline. Is there something I can help you find today?”
I looked in the direction where their dress shirts and slacks were displayed. “We’re getting married in a few days and we need to find our outfits.”
“A few days? That’s not much time, but I’m sure we can find you something. Where is the wedding being held? Are you thinking formal or casual?”
“Definitely casual,” Crew responded. “It’s going to be a small backyard wedding, so we are probably just going to get dress shirts and slacks.”
“Any specific color?” Madeline asked.
Crew looked at me, and I shrugged. “The flowers Mallory picked for the centerpieces are light blue, so we could go that route.”
He nodded. “Sounds fine to me.”
We followed Madeline over to a display with long-sleeve button-up shirts. We picked out a couple we thought might work and paired them with some neutral-color pants.
A few minutes later, we were trying on our selections.
“I’m not sure about this one. I don’t think it brings out the color of my eyes,” I called out to Crew who was in the dressing room next to mine.
He laughed. “You’re ridiculous.”
“It’s our wedding day. Gotta think of those details.”
“Fair enough. Now hurry up and get out here so we can pick which shirts to buy.”
After one last look in the mirror, I stepped out to see Crew in the darker of the two shirts we picked.
“I like the color of that one, but you need a bigger size?”
He lifted a brow. “Excuse me?”
I barked out a laugh. “Dude, your biceps are going to burst out of those sleeves. You’re going to look like the Hulk while we recite our vows.”
He smirked as he flexed. “I thought you were a fan of my arms.”
“I am, but I don’t think a shredded shirt is the look we want for our wedding photos.”
“Fine.” He rolled his eyes. “I’ll get a different size.”
We tried on a few more options and eventually settled on the baby-blue shirts and light gray pants.
