I racked my brain for anything else he’d given away that could be useful.

“He also said he had to defend Amarella’s actions to those higher-ups,” I continued thinking out loud. “He called it a distraction. And then he mentioned his father in a familiar way.” At least, his terminology had struck me asfamiliar. “He said his gifts were courtesy of hispopsupstairs. Might have just been Creek being Creek.”

“Or his father, whoever that might be, is a part of this,” Zebulon replied, expression thoughtful. “That matches Valentino’s theory that this war is being driven by Heaven and not Hell.”

“Or just certain members of Heaven,” I suggested.

“This all must tie into why Princess Kayla wanted to deliver a message to the Divinity,” Zane added, his voice deeper from sleeping. But he’d clearly been listening, even while resting.

“And why Ashmedai took her to his realm instead,” Zebulon murmured. “To find out what she knew.”

Zane nodded against the back of my head. “Yep.”

“I suspect we’ll learn more soon.” Zebulon’s fingers brushed my cheek. “For now, we’ll work on fortifying the power between us, to prepare for whatever is coming.”

Zane reacted against my ass, making my lips twitch.Once an incubus, always an incubus.Of course, my abdomen clenched at that thought as well, so I wasn’t much better.

“I’ll need to inform Valentino of everything that’s happened,” Zebulon continued, all business. However, a flicker of interest darkened his gaze, his demonic soul reacting to the two sexual beings in his bed. “I’ve promised to keep the lines of communication open for now. Providing him an update will fortify my resolve in keeping those channels open.”

“An intelligent play,” Zane murmured.

Lord Zebulon dipped his chin in acknowledgment, then a comfortable silence fell over us.

Soothing.

Warm.

Right.

I sighed, reveling in the sensation of just being held, of being between the two men who owned my heart.

Lord Zebulon’s dark gaze searched mine, his lips curling in a tender expression. “You know, I think I’ve dreamt of this before. This moment. Holding you. Having you both in my bed. Making the two of you mine. Or maybe it was a fantasy, one I didn’t know how to accept.”

The arm around my torso shifted as Zane reached for Zebulon’s hip, giving it a squeeze. “We’re all evolving. Or maybe we’re adapting to a new reality among our kind.”

“Because of the power shifts.” Lord Zebulon sounded thoughtful. “Perhaps. However, I also think I’m evolving. Not just in power, but in spirit. The two of you have taught me how to trust. How to learn… and potentially love.” A hint of hope entered his eyes, the notion of opening his heart warming his features.

“You love us already in your own way,” I said softly. “By protecting us. Bonding us.” I reached up to cup his cheek. “Bring us back to life.”

He leaned into my touch. “An existence without you by our sides would be a dull existence indeed, Guinevere. You’ve created a spark between us that didn’t exist before, and all I want to do is make that flame burn even hotter.”

“Mmm, likewise,” Zane murmured, his hand leaving Zebulon to cup me between my thighs. “Muchhotter.”

“One track mind,” I teased, arching into his touch.

“A similar track to yours,” he returned, nibbling my neck.

I swallowed and shuddered, his touch awakening my soul for another round.

Zebulon grinned. “Your insatiable hungers are going to be a challenge I’ll enjoy daily for the rest of my existence.”

Zane hummed in agreement.

I merely smiled, then met his gaze. “We’ll endeavor to always please you, my lord.” I traced his bottom lip with my thumb. “And we’ll forever hold your confidence.” It seemed like the right thing to say. He’d been betrayed and wounded by his last paramour. However, he’d opened his bed once more to two mates. Choosing to trust us and claim us as his own. “I vow never to betray you.” It was almost the same as confessing my love, yet somehow deeper. A promise that I knew he required. One that was exactly the right thing to say because his eyes lit up.

“I know you won’t,” he replied, his touch leaving me to settle over my hand on his cheek. “I can feel your earnestness through our connection.” His gaze went to Zane. “And yours as well.”

“I’m no innocent.”
