Darius and Juliet were already waiting for us outside near another stretched black car, which I believe Jace had called alimoat one point.

The blaring sunshine had me wanting to pause and glance upward, but the palm against my spine kept me moving.

And we were in the back of the limo before I even had a chance to regret the loss of the sun.

From what I understood, Sal and Anvil were staying on the jet. Jace had mentioned wanting to be ready to fly in case we needed an escape. I’d asked if Lajos would recognize his intent, but he’d merely shrugged and said that Sal’s love for aviation was well known among his kind.

Jace’s palm slid into the slit of my dress to rest on my thigh as he and Darius engaged in conversation regarding their evening plans.

“I’d like a few hours of rest first,” Darius said. “Juliet kept me busy most of the day.”

“Mmm, yes, she’s skilled at that,” Jace replied flatly. “Although, I can’t say I’m all that disappointed by the show she and Calina put on for us.”

“No,disappointedis certainly not the descriptor I would use,” Darius agreed.

I nearly frowned, their conversation full of so many false implications, but I knew that was the point.

Most of our flight had been spent reviewing Lilith’s logs, which we’d left on board the jet because Jace couldn’t risk anyone else getting ahold of his laptop. And he trusted the pilot to guard it.

He also had a whole series of security features on the device that would dismantle the contents should someone guess the password incorrectly three times.

For someone who didn’t seem all that technologically savvy, he certainly knew the importance of security sequences.

It was possible Damien had helped him set it all up, but I suspected that wasn’t the case at all. His laptop had been in Jace City, not with us on the original plane. Which suggested the safeguard protocols had already existed.

“Then it’s settled. We’ll have a lie-in until midnight or so. Lajos’s best clubs don’t open until two, anyway,” Jace declared. “I’m sure he won’t mind us taking breakfast in bed.”

Darius chuckled. “I know I won’t mind.”

Jace’s fingertips trailed upward to brush the lace covering my sex. “I certainly won’t either.”

I shivered at the promise in his words, the statement coupled with his actions creating an intoxicating conundrum.

This was all a ruse, and yet, that made it so much more alluring. Because I couldn’t tell the truth from the fiction. His knowing touch felt real. I almost lost myself to the charade, my desire to melt into his side a very enticing notion.

His lips brushed my neck, causing my heart to race.

“I can’t wait to rip this dress off of you,” he whispered against my ear. “Then I’m going to devour your slick flesh until you pass out.”

My thighs clenched, my insides burning at the prospect.

But did he mean it? Or was this all part of his game?

I had no way of knowing because even as we exited the limo, he continued to hold me with sensual purpose.

His palm went from my lower back to my ass as he guided me into a frigid building.

The air-conditioning immediately caused my nipples to pucker, which sent a reminder through my body of what he’d done to my breast on the jet. My abused peak grazed the hardened lace—the fabric having stiffened from my blood soaking through the gauze.

Jace bent to nibble the sensitive bud, his groan of approval going straight to my insides. What is he doing to me?

His essence running through my system seemed to make me hyperaware of his touch, heightening every stroke, lick, and suck of his tongue.

I knew others could see us. We were standing in an ornate lobby while Darius spoke to someone nearby. But I couldn’t think beyond Jace and his wicked caress as he kissed a path up to my throat and across my jaw to my mouth.

His tongue traced my bottom lip before dipping inside.

It was brief, there and gone in a second. My eyes met his, his pupils blown wide with lust, and his hand went to the back of my nape to force my gaze down once more.
