He glanced at several Nephilim before eyeing the fallen angels nearby. “A new era of existence is upon us, Archangel. There are some who seek to take advantage of such changes, and others who merely want to survive it.”

He lifted a shoulder, his attention shifting to Kayla.

His eyes sparkled.

“Your princess is about to wake up,” he murmured. “My congratulations to you both.”

With that statement, he winked out of existence, taking Morax with him.

Fucking insufferable Archdemon,I muttered, kneeling beside Kayla to check her pulse.

Those words had better not be for me, she replied softly, her mental tone exhausted.Or I’ll kill you when I can move again.

Kayla…I lifted one of her wings up to peer down at her curled form. She resembled an angel with her reddish-brown hair fanned around her and her long, pale legs tucked up against her chest. You’re here.

Not sure what that means, but okay.

You have wings,I whispered, stroking the red-tipped plumes. They’re mostly black but edged with red, and utterly beautiful.

She didn’t reply, her silence underscored by a note of shock. How?

The veil ruptured, sending everyone to the ground. Then you… you channeled the Divinity and exploded.I wasn’t sure how else to explain it.You absorbed Kristina’s former gifts, too. And you knocked everyone out except for me.

Probably because of our link—it had shielded me from the impact of her eruption.

I ran my fingers along the edge of her wing.

You took down three Archangels, an angel, and an Archdemon. As well as all the Nephilim and demons present,I added.Maybe even a few Shadow demons. Although, I think most of those were impacted by the light from the veil ripping apart.

I hadn’t really seen that part, my soul being called back to hers within seconds of the veil fracturing.

Then I’d been consumed by Kayla and her need for my strength.

I’d given her everything.

You took them all down in a blink,I whispered, still stunned by the power she’d exuded.Kayla, it was like a supernova went off. And then you healed the veil.

I’d never seen anything more beautiful or more terrifying in my life.

Afterward, you passed out and grew wings. It sounded so anticlimactic compared to everything else. Yet her wings really should feel like a much bigger deal. Except it paled in comparison to the Divinity thriving inside her.

This is a really fucked-up dream,she mumbled.

If only,I mused, my gaze flicking over to Scion as he began to stir. He would undoubtedly demand an explanation, which I didn’t really have other than to say the veil and balance were restored.

For now, anyway.

Because Ashmedai had made it clear that this was only the beginning.

Do you remember anything?I wondered.Or is it all a blur?

I remember questioning a fifth power. She sounded distant. And everyone’s conflicting auras.

What do you mean?

I don’t know. I’m… I’m still confused.

“Fucking hell,” Scion groaned from several yards away.
