That sent a glimmer of fire through my veins. “What reason have you given me to trust you?”
“None.” He canted his head. “But trust has to start somewhere.”
He stood and began clearing the table, letting those words play through my mind.
“I’m not keeping anything important from you,” he said softly. “The next trial is just more Nightmare Fae battles. But the next one just so happens to be a specialty of mine. Which is why Melek requested my assistance. And since I like your spirit, I agreed.”
He stepped up to my side and slid his fingers through mine to extract the fork from my hand. But he didn’t immediately take the utensil, instead choosing to hold on to me as he leaned down.
“I need you at full health for me to properly train you. Thus, today is about relaxing.” He extracted the fork. “We won’t begin until all your needs are met. Understood?”
My thighs clenched, his words seeming to mean so much more than just an afternoon of rest.
Because now I was fairly certain he was insinuating something entirely different.
And I wasn’t sure I wanted to say no.
But before I could reply, he put the dishes in the sink and rinsed them off. “I’m going to take a shower. I suggest you make yourself comfortable.” He eyed the front doorway. “And I wouldn’t try to leave if I were you. My snake-vines are spelled to keep you here where I can keep an eye on you.”
“Fabulous,” I grumbled. Although, I really had no desire to leave this room. Not until I recovered from yesterday, anyway.
Which made his “rest day” idea a good one.
He winked as though he could sense my acquiescence. Or maybe it was his response to my sarcastic comment.
It really didn’t matter.
Not with the view of all those muscles flexing as he walked. He even had those two little dimples on his lower back, making his whole torso a work of art.
If only he’d lose those sweatpants, then I’d be given a full preview.
His thumbs hooked into the sides of them like he could hear my interest. Or perhaps he just felt my eyes on him. Either way, he was a fucking tease because he disappeared into the bathroom before he tugged down the gray sweats.
The shower started in the next instant, causing me to curl my fingers into my palms.
Ireallyneeded a distraction. Something to do. Something to keep me from trying to join the sexy Midnight Fae.
I shouldnotbe attracted to him.
And yet, my insides were positively on fire for him.
Not. Going. To. Happen.
I forced myself to move to his couch and focused on trying to turn on his screen. Surely Hell Fae had interesting movies.
Unless they were all related to brides battling each other to the death.
Are there replays of yesterday’s events somewhere?I wondered, hitting random keys on his remote.Maybe—
A flurry of magic shimmered through the air as a tall male with dark hair and broad shoulders appeared out of thin air near the entryway.
Az.
His violet eyes went to the sound of the shower, his mouth quirking up at the sides in a sexy little grin.
My lips parted as he pulled off his shirt, revealing a ripped chest and abs—comparable to Ajax’s physique—and started toward the hallway with his hand dropping to his belt as his shirt hit the floor.
I gaped at his back, just as hypnotized as I had been with Ajax.
