Their intensity.

Theirneed.

My thighs clenched, my insides tingling with delicious memories.

Memories that seemed to come to life before my eyes as Az appeared beside the bed wearing nothing but a pair of black pants. He studied me for a moment, then squatted to bring himself down to my level and pressed a bottle of water to my lips.

I sat up just enough to drink, then lay down again.

Which caused the masculine arm around my waist to tighten, an action Az tracked with his gaze. “Ajax will wake soon,” he told me softly. “And he’s not going to like what happened.”

I frowned. “He’s not?”

Az shook his head, causing his dark hair to dance along his forehead. “This is going to make him feel. He’ll do his best to push you away as a result.”

“Oh.” My brow furrowed. “So he’s going to regret this?”

I wasn’t sure how to feel about that. If anyone should regret what had happened, it was me.

These were my proverbial captors, after all.

Yet I couldn’t deny how right it had all felt. Nor could I say I didn’t want it to happen again.

Actually—I ran my gaze over Az’s sculpted torso—I very much want it to happen again.

“He’ll think he regrets it,” Az murmured as he set the bottle aside and reached out to cup my cheek. “But it’ll be a lie.”

“Okay,” I whispered.

He drew his thumb along my lower lip, his eyes tracking the movement.

My tongue reacted of its own volition, licking the path he’d just traced, absorbing the subtle flavor of magic left behind.

Power seemed to emanate from Az, his inner beast expelling massive quantities meant for other fae beings to absorb.

If I used all my reserves reciting the spells Melek had taught me, would Az be able to restore my energy levels?I wondered.

It was a dangerous thought, but a useful one. One I might be able to use to my advantage.

To survive.

Assuming I couldn’t negotiate my way out of these bride games.

Or find a way to escape.

Do I even want to escape still?

Another dangerous thought.

One I tabled for now as I focused on Az and the intensity radiating from his heated expression.

“Don’t let anything he says belittle what happened here today, Cami. And don’t let his negativity fool you. Because this will be happening again, sweet warrior.” He leaned forward to brush his lips against mine. “I vow it.”

I shivered, his breath mingling with mine as he captured my mouth with his own, sealing the pledge with a searing kiss.

It seemed to brand me from the inside out, his tongue whispering promises against mine that I didn’t fully understand. But I embraced him regardless, loving the way his power seemed to bleed into my essence, overwhelming my insides and reviving my world with new life.

By the time he pulled away, his irises were full-black again. “My Phoenix likes you.” His voice was low and filled with caution. “Be good for Ajax. Do what he says. And don’t push him too far. He’s not ready for us yet.”
