“Always reminding me of my duty,” I murmured, both irritated and amused. Because I wasn’t the one distracted by these trials, as evidenced by his gaze flicking toward some of the other tables to check on their screens.

I didn’t call him out on that distraction, instead choosing to open the message on the tablet from King Zul.

20 passed, 4 casualties. They’re being escorted to their quarters now.

I keyed back a quick reply saying to keep me updated.

Then my personal device buzzed against my wrist.

“Someone’s popular,” Melek purred, his finger still tracing my zipper in a teasing caress.

I grunted and pulled up my sleeve to read the message etched across my skin.

Only I could see the messages that appeared in my DNA. It was one of the many unique technologies I had gathered through my deals over the years with various species of fae and non-fae.

Candidate Sixty-Six’s parents appear to be out of realm. I’ve tried a few different ways to locate them, all of which have failed. It’s as though they’ve disappeared entirely.

I frowned.

“Not in the mood today, my king?” Melek asked, his touch searing my skin even through my pants.

“You know I’m always in the mood for you,” I said, tapping on my arm as I scrawled out a reply to Azazel.

Return home.

If he couldn’t find her parents through his usual means, then we would have to try a different method—by using the Hell Fae Source. Her father might not be under my contract anymore, but his soul still connected to his birthright through me.

I would find him.

Then I’d send Az after him.

But it would have to wait until after today’s trial, and potentially the next one, as I had a lot of power to expel over the next week.

“Are you all right?” Melek’s fingers stilled against me.

“Yes. Just surprised.” Az was a powerful seeker. Evading him was a difficult feat, one very few could accomplish. It raised several more red flags where Camillia De la Croix was concerned.I really need to learn more about this girl.

The golden tablet buzzed again, this time with a message from King Stallus.

19 potential mates. 7 casualties.

It was a good number, and while casualties were to be expected, a twenty-two percent fail rate was acceptable. My prior disappointment lifted, making me roll back my shoulders.

I tilted the tablet toward Melek and he nodded.

Then the main screen flared to life once more as the next phase began, causing his touch to flinch against my now-throbbing shaft.

Whatever this female was, she’d definitely captured my prince’s attention.

Which meant she now had mine, too.

A fate that would likely lead to her doom.

CHAPTERTWENTY-THREE

MELEK

There you are, little angel, I thought as her dirty-blonde ponytail flickered into view. I couldn’t see her well, the tunnel around her quite dark. But it was enough of her silhouette for me to recognize her.
