A catastrophicboomechoes through the air, jolting me upright in my angel’s arms. I look around, startled and confused, only to find Nolan staring down at me as we hover in the sky.
“Are you all right?” he asks, his voice softer than I’ve ever heard it.
My eyelashes flutter, my heart pounding in my chest.
Am I all right?
“I’m alive,” I tell him, my brow furrowing a little. “And no one shot me this time.” The quip comes naturally to me. Mostly because it’s what I always comment on when Nolan comes around.
His lips twitch. “The day is still young, sweet canary.”
I narrow my gaze a little, another taunt tickling my tongue. But a second magical explosion has my focus shifting upward.
Issy?
She doesn’t reply.
“My sister…” I trail off as Nolan starts flying toward the battle sounds. He pauses as we reach a rooftop, allowing me to see the scene before us.
There’s a random door that seems to lead to the freezer room I was just in.
Outside of it are my three mates, as well as some other men I don’t recognize.
“Fallon,” Kaspian says, his expression one of intense relief. It’s a look my two phantoms share as they rush forward.
But they pause as Ayla jumps through the threshold, her leather jacket smoldering with black flames.
Another female follows her, and the door begins to close.
“No!” I shout. “Issy—”
Ayla looks sharply up at me. “Issy finally has her voice back.”
“What?” I ask, not understanding.
“The mating bond is broken,” the other woman says. “Issy canspeak.”
I look between them, still confused. “Issy isn’t silent because of amating bond.She’s… she’s silent…”
“Because her voice kills,” Ayla finishes for me. “So let herkill.”
Issy?I call to her.Talk to me, Issy!
A little busy right now, sis,she grates out.
Nolan finally touches down on the roof and helps me to my feet, but before I can dart forward toward the door, he grabs me and wraps me up in his leather jacket.
I frown down at it, only then realizing that I’ve been naked this whole time.
