I’d been blinded by my faith in her. In our friendship.

But Az… he’d seen what was happening. He’d warned me. However, by then, it was nearly too late.

A vision of air—no land, just an abyss—formed in my mind. The strain of my shoulders as I tried to ignite wings that no longer existed.

Just a bone skeleton.

Too diminished to form feathers. To fly.To survive.

My fist hit a structure column, sending the whole segment crashing around me. With a rush of flaming power, I protected myself from the weight of the stone, causing my fiery wings to appear and brush my shoulders for a brief second. They were merely a remnant of what they used to be.

What could never be again.

Because I’d been betrayed.

Ash rained down while the rumble of destruction spread out around me like a crack of thunder.

My chest heaved with the exertion. It feltgood.

But it wasn’t enough.

I was about to resume the havoc when Melek’s crystal gaze cut through the demolition, his irises radiating his disappointment.

“Are you done throwing your tantrum?” he asked.

Tantrum, I repeated, grunting inside. Of course he would see it that way.

I started toward him, crunching my way through the broken stones. “Once I finish rebuilding here, I will find who is responsible andfinish this.”

He cocked a blondish-brown eyebrow. “Does that mean you still intend to kill Cami?” A bold question. But I expected no less from my prince. However, I really wasn’t ready for this conversation yet, something he should know, as I was clearly in the middle ofthrowing my tantrum.

“She’s a threat,” I growled at him. “End of discussion.”

“A threat that helped fix the breach,” he returned, ignoring me. “Seems incredibly dangerous.” The deadpan quality of his voice had the hairs along the back of my neck standing on end. It was almost mocking in nature.Rude, too.

“She accessedmypower to do it.”

“And it worked. What’s the problem?”

“What’s the problem?” I repeated, irritated by his continued nonchalance. My temper flared, power echoing with each step I took toward him.

Melek didn’t seem fazed, yet anyone else in his position would have run in terror.

Granted, no one else would be brave enough to face me in this state.

My nose brushed his as I fisted the collar of his flawless dress shirt. “Did you not hear me?”

“I did,” he said softly, his breath a provocation on my lips. “Did you not hear the part where I pointed out how shefixedthe breach?”

My frustration easily turned on my prince as I slipped my hand up his hard, muscled chest and wrapped my fingers around his throat. I was still furious, mostly because of what had occurred tonight—and over the last month and a half.

But I was also angry at Melek for refusing me my outlet earlier.

Camillia was a problem that should have been swiftly dealt with.

Instead, she was alive, and my prince was here, leaning against a column like some sort of offering.

Hmm,I hummed, considering him again, the wordofferingrepeating in my mind.
