Amusement touched my mouth despite the gravity of the situation. Then I guess it’s time for our next lesson, little warrior.

And I had an idea of what that needed to be.

To understand Typhos, Cami needed to realize that Typhos Lucifer never loses. Regardless of what someone did to him, he always came out on top. No matter what.

So to accept him, she had to learn how to speak his language.

The first phase was in comprehending that the physical didn’t matter.

Then the second phase would be an introduction into his mind.

I’m coming back,I told her. When I arrive, my Phoenix will take over again. But I’m staying in human form.

Okay,she replied.

I repeated the details to Ajax. He didn’t acknowledge me or respond.

With a sigh, I returned to the Midnight Fae Realm.

It’s going to be a long few weeks.

CHAPTER21

CAMI

I staredat Az on the couch, his long body seemingly uncomfortable.

He’d chosen to rest there when he’d come back from his meeting with Lucifer, leaving me and Ajax alone for the day.Or night,I corrected myself.Whatever time it is.

This realm had no sunshine. It was impossible to guess the time without it.

Not that it mattered.

Ajax and I hadn’t slept at all since Az’s return yesterday, both of us waiting for Typhos to magically appear and whisk us off to the Hell Fae Realm. But nothing had happened.

We’d eventually eaten, Ajax saying something about how we’d missed midnight breakfast with Shade and the others. I hadn’t wanted to venture out, too concerned over what would happen next, so we’d stayed in the room and eaten in the bed.

Ajax had said he could have just ordered something from the kitchens, but instead he’d conjured our meal because it was easier. He’d also used his magic to remove all the resulting crumbs.

Now we were enjoying a huge pizza at the table near one of the balcony doors.

I really don’t think Lucifer is coming,I thought at him. That, or he’s playing some kind of long game. But I feel like we’re just wasting time right now, waiting for the inevitable.

Ajax picked up a slice of pizza, his gaze on Az.Do you really think he’s going to train you?

It was a subtle shift in topic, but it seemed to be weighing on his mind.I don’t know. There’s only one way to find out.

I agree. He pulled his wand from his pocket and whispered a spell under his breath.

My brow furrowed as I watched a snake appear on Az’s chest.

Ajax…

Shh. I’ve done this before,he told me.

I held my breath as the snake slithered upward, its tongue reaching out to touch Az’s chin. His hand flew upward in response, the snake suddenly in Az’s mouth as he shook it around like a giant worm.

My eyes widened as Ajax broke off in a fit of laughter.
