Her expression darkened as she glared at me, her eyes telling me how she felt about my obvious admiration.

You’re mine, habibi,I whispered into her mind, this gift between us one that had existed from very early on in our acquaintance.

Fuck you, My Prince,she returned.

Later, darling mirage. Definitely later.I winked at her before giving Hazel my full focus.

Cam’s human, Keys, stood just behind her, his all-black suit crisp and clean, his stature healthy.

“You healed nicely,” I told him.

“Thank you, My Prince,” he answered dutifully.

Hazel rolled her eyes. “You can call him Khalid.”

I chuckled. “Trying to divest the poor human of his training?”

“Yes.” Her emphatic answer highlighted her annoyance. “We need to talk about Cane.”

Hmm, yes, I suppose we do.“We heard everything he said to Cam. Cedric recorded it as well.” We’d also turned off the microphone on our end once we’d realized there might be lycans present.

My advanced communication technology had been tested around vampires, not shifters. So while I knew my brethren couldn’t overhear chatter from the earpieces, I wasn’t sure about the wolves.

It was easier to just turn it off entirely and go into listening mode.

“Yes, I’m aware,” Hazel replied, her words in response to my comments about the recording.

She collapsed onto the couch closest to Emine, not at all fearful of having my deadly dragoness at her back.

“We need to find out what Cane knows about Blood City,” Hazel said bluntly.

“Well, Abigail wasn’t privy to any of our conversations, and Deirdre turned off all the surveillance in the room. So she shouldn’t have been able to tell him much, if anything, about Blood City.” I walked over to the fridge to grab a water bottle for Emine while I spoke.

My darling mirage continued to narrow her eyes at me as she accepted the offering, her inner voice conveying gratitude while her face displayed unveiled hatred.

I kissed her cheek, the gesture a taunt. She growled in response, her hand going for a blade as I phased over to sit in a chair across from Hazel.

Emine simply stared at me.

Then popped the lid off her bottle and guzzled the contents.

Now you’re just teasing me, habibi.

You’re entertained by asinine behaviors, Khalid.

Such as watching you swallow?I suggested.I find thatveryentertaining indeed.

She nearly choked in response.

Careful, darling. I have plans for that throat later.

Keep dreaming.

Keep fighting,I returned.

She rolled her eyes and went to grab another bottle, her unique genetics making hydration a requirement. She needed more than blood to survive.

But that was a secret we didn’t share with anyone.
