I flinch away from him, more afraid of him than the other male. I’m not sure why, but the one who spoke all the languages just seems less intimidating.

“We’re not going to hurt you,” the third Alpha says, speaking English. “I’m Elias. If you scent me, you’ll know I’m already mated.”

I’m not sure why that matters, so I just stare at him.

“This is Enrique. He’s not mated, but he believes in consent.” The third Alpha—Elias—glances at his friend. “Right?”

“Yes,” the less intimidating one says but doesn’t elaborate.

“We’re here to burn this hellhole to the ground. But to do that, I need you to leave that cage and go upstairs,” Elias tells me.

I blink at him.Burn it to the ground? Is that why I’m smelling fire?

Enrique repeats what Elias said, only in Spanish, then switches to the other languages he knows.

“I understand English,” I finally tell him. “And Spanish.”

He says nothing for a long moment, his gaze seeming to search mine despite the darkness around us. Perhaps his wolf sight is better than mine because all I see are the shadows of his face, but I can feel the intensity of his eyes.

He holds out his hand for me again, his arm having dropped when Elias joined him at the cage. “Will you please come upstairs with me?” he asks in Spanish rather than English.

I swallow. It’s akin to suicide to deny an Alpha. I’m not sure why I haven’t obeyed him yet. It was purely instinctual not to, which is strange given how often I’ve followed Alpha orders over the years.

Clearing my throat, I finally push forward, but slowly because of the tight space.

Enrique takes a step backward, his hand still poised in offering as I reach the open door.

I glance from him to the floor, trying to determine the best way to get down, as my cage is perched on a table. If I were in wolf form, I would simply jump. But on two legs—and without the appropriate room to stand—I’m more likely to fall flat on my face from here.

Being hungry and thirsty isn’t helping matters, either.

Closing my eyes, I blow out a breath and finally place my hand in Enrique’s large palm. Electricity hums up my arm in response to the simple touch. That electric current only grows stronger as he gently pulls me out of the cage and into his arms before setting me on my feet.

I wobble, my legs and back sore from being bent for so long. Wincing, I try to step forward, only to lose my balance entirely and end up tucked against a big Alpha chest.

That vibration sound he made earlier rumbles back to life, stirring a quivering sensation in my lower belly. That’s a very pleasing growl, I decide.

It makes me want to melt into his broad chest and nuzzle his pecs.

“I’ve never heard an Alpha do this,” I confide softly as he starts carrying me up the stairs. “What is it?”

He stills on the steps, the abrupt halt making me realize my faux pas.

I just questioned an Alpha.

Oh, what in the moons was I thinking?

“I’m sorry, Alpha,” I immediately add, my head bowing as much as I can in my position against his torso. “I… I won’t speak again.”

“You can speak however much you like,” he replies, that vibration heightening with his words. “And it’s a purr, pequeño tesoro.”

Little treasure, I translate, shivering. That seems like an abnormal thing to call me. Perhaps I misheard him?

He starts up the stairs once more, not saying anything else.

I remain quiet as well, then flinch as light hits my eyes from above. It’s blinding. Too bright.Overwhelming.And it makes it impossible for me to see what we’re doing. Not that I have any choice in where we’re going or what will happen once we get there.

“She’s underfed but otherwise appears to be unhurt,” I hear him say.
